Question Drag / Quarter mile times & technique?

Hi there

Got myself an F Type SVR, absolutely loving it and shall be taking it quarter mile racing in February.

I was wondering if there is any particular mode, setting I should be in and using to get the best times and I assume just launch from idle, so foot on brake, release brake and stomp the gas pedal?

Couple of videos:

What times are other owners getting in their F Types over the quarter mile?

Launching off idle seems to produce the quickest acceleration. Hold the brake, no gas, and then stomp the pedal when the light turns green. Drive mode matters less, but I always put it in dynamic/sport and shift myself.

See sig for times.

Very nice times mate.

SVR has a VMAX mode, maybe I should try that? So do you find manual shifting gets you better times? What RPM do you pull the paddle at?

I'm not familiar with the changes made for VMAX mode. If that lowers the spoiler for better aero, absolutely do that. I do fine shifting myself helps, only because I can change the shift points based on how hot the car is or isn't. Generally when the car is cooler, it will let you rev it out a little more before dumping fuel to cool the cats down. When it dumps fuel, you can really feel it lose power.

All the more reason to remove the cats friend :-)

Still has to be specifically tuned out. The system is calculation based and isn't actually taking a physical measurement of anything.

Will disabling spoiler improve times? How about paddles vs Auto?

My times are 12.9s stock, Dynamic/S + Auto shift, Launch Control enabled.

Spoiler down should produce better results in theory, but I found it made no difference. However letting the transmission shift on its own produces better results.

Spoiler UP should give better areodinamic. Not only more weight on the rear wheels but even better areodinamics for max velocity

The spoiler comes up at 60 so 0-60 is safe. It might save a tenth in the quarter and more in the half. Paddles are impossible to time in a V8, so S mode for best results IMO.

11.22 with Racechip and upper pulley
3.36 to 60 mph timed with Dragy (1-ft)

That's a 2014 V8 S in the throws of an epic battle for traction and 16 oz of Boostane Professional to prevent knocking. This is my 1320 checklist:

Pre-Stage
1. Helmet/Glasses - ON
2. Windows and Top - UP
3. Transmission - Sport (Hands off paddles!)
4. Traction Control - OFF (Short press 1 second, long press 5 seconds)
5. A/C - OFF
6. Lights - BRIGHT

Staging
7. Burnout - MIN to clean-up differential traction
8. Traction Control - HALF (Short press 1 second to normal, short press 1 second to HALF)
Or, FULL OFF with a non-V8, V8 AWD, or RWD with street slicks or drag radials

In-Place
9. Brake - HOLD (Left foot)
10. Pedal - HALF (Confirm 2000 RPM)
11. Gauges - GREEN

ALL SET, GAME TIME!

12. Last Yellow Light Off, Brake - RELEASE
13. After Strong Acceleration, Pedal - SMOOTHLY TO FLOOR THROUGH KICK-DOWN
Or, FLOORED with a non-V8, V8 AWD, or RWD with street slicks or drag radials
14. S MODE - CONFIRM SHIFTING OR SHIFT

After 1320, On Rollout
15. BRAKES - CHECK
16. S MODE - CONFIRM DOWN SHIFTING
17. Gauges - GREEN
18. Signal

I think he has a coupe, so the spoiler deploys at 70.

RacerX, great feedback for those with V6S after staging (in-place) you can't hold 2K, Max is 1,250 to keep Launch Control engaged. Passed 1,250rpm the rpms drop down immediately and LC is disabled.

Left foot on brake, hold accelerator at 1250rpm (Launch Control Engaged Message), 3rd yellow ON accelerate hard until kick-down (Launch Control Active Message).

Goal tonite at Milan Dragstrip is 12.8s.
