Kudos for the Montrose track, Bad Motor Scooter is a perfect drive jam.

My playlist is all 90s country at the moment, but the first song I thought of was "Highway Star".

I usually keep the music turned down, but most of my playlist is 80's and newer guitar-led genres, everything from folk to alternative to progressive rock and different types of metal to certain R&B and pop artists, even the occasional ska track. Really the only things I don't have on my playlist are country, full-on rap/hip hop, and more or less anything earlier than the 80s. My driving songs tend to have a strong beat and some syncopation, with really full guitar-driven melodies. Think wall-of-sound, something I can get lost in. Pretty much anything by Dream Theater from when they still had Portnoy, Living Sacrifice after Fitzhugh took over vocals, and my recent favorites are things like 'So Long, Mother Earth' by Chevelle, and 'RIPW' by Zao.

I don't remember that from a Jaguar commercial, but from the "Kill Bill" soundtrack.

Following. Unfortunately, some of my favorite songs don't sound as they should in the Jag...

Not sure what you're listening to, but the T-Type is no concert hall. I wouldn't want it to be one anyway. The car can sing a happy song on its own.

Counterpoint:

Driving down I-5, for example, can be a bit of a bore. Cruise control set at whatever speed, it would be nice to have something pleasant to listen to. The fact that the F-Type sound system is sub-par has been beat to death. My 2008 Audi S5 had a phenomenal sound system, a throaty sounding V8 and a six speed stick...I still choose the Jag over the Audi.

My point is I have heard songs in a car that sounded just amazing. Getting every little nuisance of a song, sometimes hearing little elements I hadn't heard before brings me joy. I used to always make road trip mixes on cassette and later on CD. I distinctly remember a night before a snowboarding trip getting almost no sleep because I was making sure one song segued well into another and I used as much time as possible on each side of the 90 minute cassette. I have a new game I play where I go to youtube, search for high quality songs and then sort of just follow the rabbit hole. It brings me joy. The sound system in the Jag, not so much.

And here's the get: I know they can do better. A cheaper system by the same company in a Land Rover Discovery sport sound so much better. Again, it's beat to death and that doesn't take away from the fact that I know something is missing when I listen to many songs. I'll address it at some point, but it's time/money.

Understatement of the day. Same goes for driving back up.

My point was not so much about quality of the sound system but about background noise. The state of my hearing is not helpful either. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Last week I picked up a 2021 Range Rover sport as my everyday and it is equipped with the similar 800w Meridian.

It sounds phenomenal, clear and tight. I’m sure it has to do with the fact they have more area to work with compared to the F type but it is far better in every respect.
