Default Eco Mode Not Working

I realize this is a desired situation for most people, but the Eco mode on my car no longer seems to function. I have only had the car (2016 F Type R) for a few months. When first purchased, Eco mode worked properly and I was starting to get myself trained to automatically turn off Eco mode and switch to Dynamic mode each time I got in the car. I had not completely adopted this new habit when I realized that the car was no longer shutting off on its own. The Eco light is still illuminated each time I start the car, but the car no longer performs the auto stop/start sequence under any conditions. My concern is that this may be an indicator of other issues. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

I don’t recall when they eliminated the 2nd battery for ECO (stop/start). If you have the 2nd battery, then that’s probably dead. I drove mine for a few years with the ECO battery dead, before I finally removed it (and didn’t replace it.) The only consequence is that ECO isn’t available. (When I start the car, the light comes on on the ECO switch for 5-10 sec, then turns off.)

The second battery was eliminated starting with the 2016 MY. My car only has a single battery. Also, I believe Dynamic mode would negate Eco mode on the 2014-2015 MY vehicles, but that is not the case for 2016+. Eco mode should be active under all conditions for 2016+ vehicles, unless the system is disabled using the Eco button. In my case, Eco mode never seems to function even though the light indicates the system is active

My 2018 XE is behaving the same way, I think it’s been a year or more since ECO has activated, even though it’s enabled. But as I don’t like it, I don’t intend to do anything about it.

Be glad!!
We have had factory techs post on the forum that the entire Eco system was very failure prone and also very expensive to repair when it fails.
If you hook the car up to SDD you will find the errors and no they don't effect anything else in the car.

Mine stopped working and I thought the standard thing that I needed a new main battery. But SDD showed specific start/stop errors.
I have no plans to attempt to fix it.

Thanks for this info! I am definitely glad I don't have to remember to turn the system off every time I get in the car, but was concerned it might be a symptom of a bigger issue. Good to know the Eco system is isolated and should not affect other functions.

Or any of the conditions listed in the handbook apply, such as low ambient temperature, very high ambient temperature, driver's seat belt unbuckled, vehicle not reached optimum operating temperature, battery charge is low, or you're using the gearshift paddles (all this from the MY18 handbook).

That is how my car works but is doesn't matter anymore because the eco mode stopped working no matter what a long time ago.

I think the eco stop start is overly sensitive to battery charge.
It doesn't work, by design, when battery charge is "low", but it seems to me that anything other than a brand new fully charged battery won't allow it to function.

The A/C can keep it from stopping too, and moving the steering wheel will wake it up (for electric P/S - don't know about hydraulic).

When mine stopped working during the warranty period it was traced to a weak battery. That was replaced and all has been working since.

Update - I purchased a CTEK last week in preparation for having my car stored in the garage for the next few months until the weather gets nice again. I installed the pigtail, and when initially connected the CTEK only showed 3 lights. After a few hours, the charger still showed only 4 lights. I left the charger on overnight and the battery finally reached full charge. Took the car out for a spin and Eco mode works again. Looks like I will be replacing the battery in the spring.

Your description of the charging pattern and length of time is perfectly normal for the CTEK unit. These units safely and slowly charge the battery and it can indeed take 24 hours and sometimes even longer to reach full charge. No worries.
