Default Exhaust dent. OUCH

A small pipe bounced across the freeway and went under the Jag. Put a decent dent on the drivers side (left) exhaust Catalytic pipe. Not sure if it can be pulled out or if I have to buy a complete catalytic pipe. No other damage underneath luckily. New cat is $3,000.00 US.

That's still OK. But if you want it done without spending a fortune, Midas can copy the shape of yhe exhaust pipe.. They'll test if the CAT has exhaust leak, if not it stays in the car.

Your damage is on the straight bit of pipe... An exhaust place should be able to cut it out and weld a new bit in fairly easily 👍

Not sure what I can see in the second photo but it looks like there is also a major split between the main section and the dented pipe??

Thanks CJSJAG. I will have to put it on the rack and look at that area again.

I saw that too, but it might just be a shadow on the muffler seam.

If it IS a split, you are welcomed to our 25 year old container of muffler cement, and hold the plug in place with a wrap of aluminum duct tape...or an equally old roll of muffler 'tape'.

++++++++++++

I remember the 'old days' when I was forced to repair broken mufflers on the road....using old beer or tomato paste cans and wire coat hangers. (Did you know that tomato paste serves as a wonderful leak sealant for cooling systems?)

Fixed! Found a shop that works with Stainless steel, not the crappy aluminized steel. They cut out the section and replaced it. Found the shop by referral. They build the custom exhaust for TRD trucks. Couldn’t be happier. They took the catalytic converter off and inspected for damage. None. I was lucky, due to the converters get damaged easily by hits. The welds are top notch! Cost me $360.00 US. I think it is more than fair since they worked on it for 3 hours. Saved me thousands.

Um, looks like the replacement pipe is a smaller diameter than the original, but it might be an optical illusion.

In this kind of repair the ends of the new pipe are flared to go over the old one, like this:
