Read today in CAR Magazine, spy spot. This should be quite the beast in an AWD V8 supercharged R release. I remember reading an article when the F-Type first came out that the F-Type was going to be improved with each iteration. Only time will tell. I can't see AWD happening with a V8 SC engine. If it's built it will be a beast to rival the performance of track oriented cars such as the Porsche 911 and Nissan GT-R.

Considering that AWD is currently only available with the V6 in the XF & XJ, and only LHD XF's & XJ's at that, you'd have to wonder if the current AWD system will make it to the F-Type at all...

Maybe, possibly, an updated AWD system that will handle the power of the V8 & be packaged for the RHD chassis too? It's a big ask...

BMW has the same problem with it's X-Drive, it only fits the LHD chassis and can't handle huge power (hence the limit on engine options).

But looking at the layout of the Jag system, the driveshaft to the front diff is on the left side, which "should" clash with the steering column on a LHD car, so who knows...



I will be really suprised if the V8's get AWD, it'll probably be the same story as the manual transmission option, V6 only...

The transfer boxes in this style of AWD setup don't handle high-power or abuse very well... and you'd have to expect a supercharged V8 sports coupe will see abuse at the hands of some owners...

Happy to be proven wrong, I hope the can get it to work with the V8.

 

If the V8 comes with AWD i'll be the first in line to buy one.

That being said i've always assumed that only the V6 models would get the manual transmission and the AWD option. I've been waiting for this release to purchase one, and it couldn't come soon enough.

 

I can't see it happening for the above same reasons. Way too much re-engineering to outfit with the V8 SC. Too bad. I'm sure the MSRP would be extremely high.


I'm still surprised Jaguar never built the F-Type with a hybrid setup. Maybe in the next generation. Nissan's GT-R, Acura NSX and other very high end performance cars are all going hybrid. I was hoping for some technology transfer from the C-X75 to be in the F-Type.

 

If Jaguar is serious about challenging the likes of Porsche, Audi (which has 4 wheel drive in all of their "sports" cars), even the Nissan GTR (also 4 wheel drive), they will have to tame the drifting wheelspin of the high performance V-8 models when pushed hard. 4 wheel drive will be the answer as it has been for the others. The question is whether or not there will be engineering money for a low production model. However, it would not surprise me. They read the comparisons and reviews, too and know what the weaknesses are. My guess is that each year of the F-types' development will bring significant engine and suspension upgrades and minor body changes. It's great and close now, it will be a world beater soon.

 

A hybrid, Targa, AWD F-Type

AWD in the F-Type is an interesting proposition. AWD in the 911 doesn't really change the car much. Only reason people buy the C2 vs the C4 or the equiv S models is for winter driving. But AWD in the F-Type would completely change the characteristics of the car. I wonder how this would fit into the overall model strategy? Should they reserve it for the top RS model only? Or just make it an option? My fear would be it cannibalizes the RWD sales since it would be such a drastically different car.

 

I believe in the future all cars with more than 500hp will be available with AWD. McLaren and Ferrari may be the exceptions.

 

And we have confirmation, an AWD F type R is coming. And I'd think i'll buy one!

I would seriously consider one of these for my daily driver during Chicago winters. Put some snow rubber on there and I can't see it getting stopped by too much..

I have no need for a backseat, so I'd much rather have an AWD F-Type than an XJ or XF.

Looking even further into the future (2017 or 2018?), I wouldn't be surprised if the XK's replacement was offered with AWD, given it's market position of a grand touring car to compete with the likes of the Continental GT.

Since jaguar engineered AWD in its larger sedans and they are powered by only fours and sixes. I might suggest the logic would bring AWD for 4 and 6 cylinder forced induction models.

The supercharged v8 with AWD would also be excellent if it didn't follow previous jaguar patterns although I'm sure a forced induction high hp smaller displacement power plant makes more sense.

 

I doubt we'll see a V8 AWD F-Type. Like someone mentioned earlier in the thread, the AWD's seem to be allocated only to the V6's. Still, a V6 Supercharged AWD F-Type isn't a bad proposition...

No problem with durability as Jag/Land rover have been making excellent all wheel drive systems for v8's for years.
