Good to know. I have OBDFusion on the iPhone and will play around with the alerts. I never saw those before, but last time I checked was years ago. Back then the only thing that showed on the CarPlay screen was numeric values, not actual graphical dials, etc.

Yeah, from what I read it’s a little more work to get the dials setup or whatever, but once you make that investment you can then enjoy the cross-OS flexibility, having it on your entertainment screen if ya want it, the supposed easy in-app custom pid purchase packs that just expose all that stuff for ya, etc…
@wachuko does your new F-Type have the aluminum coolant pipes?..
Sorry, I had missed this question. No. It came with the plastic units.
Dealer tried painting the letters to match the lines... not my cup of tea. I prefer the cover to have the factory look. So they will order a new one, which is what I wanted and had shared with them. Not a big deal, they will call me when the part is in so we can do the swap.

No doubt they were trying to avoid replacing it. The cost looks to be 500 to 600 USD.
I would love to know what they did to your original one. I suspect your car was sitting outside on their lot for a period of time, and the engine bay got a bit dirty. Then the guy tasked with getting it spiffed up goofed.

That had to be the case. As I mentioned, doubt it was as aggressive as the video shared by another forum member, but pretty sure some product they used to clean, had to be responsible for the fading of the letters. Car only had 16 miles when I bought it, so it was not use/heat that caused it.
On other news, to keep track of changes done. Installed the pig tail for the battery tender as shared in this thread:
Are you installing a rear camera with that dash cam?
I had looked at that one, but some of the reviews of that company more generally came back not so good.
Would be curious to hear how ya like it. Can’t argue with the clean factory looking install, that’s for sure.
With rear camera as well, correct. Will document installation and provide feedback. Just wanted the clean look or I would have gone with what I have in the other cars.
If I end up going ahead with a phone-based solution for monitoring temps etc I’ll be looking for a good mount. Will keep this in mind. I would likely lean more in the direction of one of those mounts that goes in the cigarette lighter, or on the vent on the drivers side…Mainly out of concern that the leather on that grab handle could get compromised. You don’t have any concerns? Impressions, have the leather there fade less than leather not covered by the strap, etc…This sorta thing…

Right on. Yeah, I would definitely be interested in a guide for that. Do you think there will be a lot of “surgery” to run the cable to the back camera? I think the rear camera is almost a must if you’re taking the time to get one…
I don’t have a dash cam in any of my vehicles. About 8 years ago I was travelling to work. A woman fell asleep at the wheel and almost took me out head on. I managed to get out of the way just enough, but she still ended up totalling my 4Runner.
Not a good day ;-0 Ever since then I’ve had thoughts of investing in a dash cam(s), but it seems to be on my “never gonna get done” list ;-0 In part because my commute now is from my bedroom to my office in the basement, so it has sorta become less of a priority ;-0
OKAY, not sure if you are aware of this or not, but I now remember why I got a bit turned off by the Fitcamx product. Apparently there is a battery soldered onto the main board, and it only lasts on average 2 years…Then comes the butt pain…
Not sure how common of a practice that is for different dashcam products, but for the average person out there not looking to get into electronics and soldering, it seems really ridiculous to be putting a product out like this without an easily replaceable battery.
Were you aware of this?
Here is a link that has some content talking about these issues…

Thank you for that. I was not aware of this when I bought it. I really like the form-factor so I will keep it. I have soldering station and all that is required to replace the battery when the time comes. Not an expert but I have some experience soldering circuits.
At least now I am aware that it will be an issue down the line. Thanks again for calling that out.

I am a believer of their value. My son was in a four car accident... He was on the highway and there was a slow down, the car behind him did not slowed down as the rest of the cars. That car crashed into my son's RAV4 with such an impact that it pushed his car hitting two cars in front of him... two cars! Needless to say, his car was totalled as well. They tried to blame him for the incident and the video cleared him. Good thing he had both front and rear cameras. You could see in the video that the car behind him never tried to slow down/stop. So yes, every car that we have, or our kids (adults now), have front/rear dashcams.
Seems like a reasonably priced way to overcome the deficit that these cars have of only being wired for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
I use this one in my motorcycle. Works great. Not sure how it would work in our cars. Since my car has CarPlay, no need to get one... but I am guessing for the rest, it should work as any of the other solutions out there. Best to go with one that has been tested/proven by a fellow forum member.
Only thing that I had to do was to close the clips a bit more from how they came.
Used these to remove the tabs that are not needed.
And, as mentioned in the video, there is really no need to cut the bottom... it can be left like that.
Interesting, in the photo is looks as if it was detached from the body of the car... must be the reflection playing tricks... it is attached perfectly to the contour of the fender lip.

I wanted a simple and small mount. Something that would not allow the phone to block any of the dials/controls. Not too worry about discoloration of the leather. Also, the soft side of the strap is what is touching the leather, so that will not harm it.
Car is garaged when at home. I work from home so I do not see myself putting a lot of miles on this car. So very little exposure to the sun. I do need/want to get the windows tinted.
Gladiator or the Vistiq gets most of the daily use.
