Hi Paul,

Have you added an Audison item?

Is this an amplifier for a subwoffer?

Is it really necessary?

Hi Ducono,

Yes, I have added quite a lot :-). I have updated the speakers in the door with the higher spec models. I have replaced the subs in the car (but retaining the original frames) with a pair of Hertz ML1800's. Finally I have installed two audison amps, the 8.9 bit amp to process the sound, and an AP1d to power the subs. All depends on what you have currently, and how happy you are with it.

Paul

That pink plug is tricky to remove. The one on mine had a very small lug underneath which had to be pushed up.
I got a band aid and put a shortened small screw through it and taped it to my finger! Worked like a charm!

Hello all,

question for those of you using the UAD system: Where do you guys keep your phone once connected?
I assume that the GPS signal for the system comes from the phone. So is the signal strong enough if you keep the phone in the center armrest?

I keep my phone in the centre armrest, I fitted a ground loop isolator as advised but my Siri won’t work so I have removed it,.also I have the HD version may UAD box
is in between the seats but I noticed today the unit gets fairly hot to touch just wondering if there is enough ventilation in that area.

My pocket, usually. GPS works fine regardless of where I've put the phone in the cabin.

You had me worried there about Siri. Just checked and no problem with my Aukey isolator.
I do wonder about how hot the unit might get though. Going on a 4 hour drive tomorrow so will check enroute.
My phone is where it normally is, on the dash on a Scosche mount. I can display things other than CarPlay at the same time as using CarPlay.

So you connect via Bluetooth?
And if I remember your prior post correctly, you have a Bosch unit right? If so, did you have to connect the extra cable for the back camera?
Thanks in advance

But is what I do right now without the UAD. I use my phone with the Android Auto app and use the car's system for everything else. With this system I would want to keep my phone in my pocket.

How are you going to charge your phone?

Right now, I have a USB cable coming from under the dash. But I don't even plug the phone in on shorter trips.
With this new system, on longer trips, I would not mind leaving the phone in the center armrest, if the GPS works as expected.

Does anyone know the exact depth of the 8' (200mm) woofers in the doors?

The woofers fit 37mm into the door. It is not deep because the magnet is on the other side.

Less than 1.5" depth - yikes. Any idea how much additional clearance there is behind? Any space on the front to shim it out? I'm replacing all the speakers in my 770W meridian system with the "Premium" drivers but those woofers don't need to be so big for mid-bass duties so I'm considering using something else there but mounting depth is the limitation. I'm not sure what you mean by "the magnet is on the other side".

The magnet is inside the cone:

I must either have the best base audio system in F-Type history or the least discerning ears. I have zero complaints with the quality or volume; no rattles, nothing.
The system in my MY 2018 is light years better than the "premium sound system" that came in my MY 2015 Mas. Ghibli for which I paid an additional $1,500.00.

completed the kevlar meridian signature speaker swap over weekend on my 770w system

replaced all 3 speakers in each door, also sound deadened the door skin on both sides and back of door trim

noticeable improvement in sound, can run a lot more bass now through the front woofers without them distorting and also door trim buzzing, clarity is also noticeably better. added benefit of all the deadening in the door now is they sound a bit more solid when closing, especially with window down (you don't hear the window rattle inside the door)

this upgrade cost me around $800 aud in parts, was it worth it, prob not compared to what an actual audio installer could do with aftermarket speakers with a similar budget, but it was a fun project for me (i enjoy working on my cars) and the ease of installation makes it possible for anyone to diy

Looks good! I'm currently collecting up everything needed. I have the mids, tweeters, and center channel speaker on the way. I'm debating what to do with the midbass drivers. 8" is unnecessarily large and I don't mind a bit of light fabrication to mount a 6.5" or 7" driver instead. I'm just concerned about mounting depth. I'd start with something inexpensive like the Dayton Audio RS180P-4 7". It has a good reputation among mobile audio and I've used it in the past.

Is anyone willing to send me one of the shitty 200mm door speakers that they replaced? I'd like to use it for measurements and some experimenting for aftermarket options. I'm happy to cover the postage cost.
