Default F-type V6 S LSD oil

Anyone know which oil and quantity I need to fill the rear limited slip differential on a F-type V6 S.

Thanks

According to my copy of the Workshop Manual it is JLR part # BOT720 (which is a Castrol fluid but apparently you can only get it from JLR dealers) and the quantities are .84 - .86 litres dry fill and .815 - .835 litres wet fill. The V6S LSD uses the same diff oil as the V8R e-diff, but the base V6 with the open diff uses a different oil.
With a quick search I couldn't find an alternative for the BOT720, and being an LSD I wouldn't risk anything else.

Update - after some more research it seems there is an alternative to the Castrol BOT720, and it may in fact be the exact same stuff - Ravenol MDL, see here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/RAVENOL-MDL...841?rmvSB=true

Are you leaking oil?

Castrol BOT 720 SAE 75W90 GL-5 oil. This is proprietary formulation by Castrol, but there is no reason to expect that it is anything special and other synthetic 75W-90 GL-5 gear oil with limited-slip additive won't work. However, if you deviate from recommended, you have to accept dangers of something going drastically wrong. I wouldn't do it if it is still under warranty.

in the FWIW dept, their (BLAUPARTS) website also sells Ravenol Oil Change kits (oil, mahle filter) for Jaguar, including F-Type, saying their Ravenol Oil meets Jaguar Specs. Maybe its just Castrol in a different bottle...

Thanks for the replies guys much appreciate the information.

Not leaking just adding LSD diff with lower ratio so need to replace the oil.

Understood...otherwise I would recommend not changing fluid until factory specification.

Are you adding an OEM 3.31 LSD to a V6 Base? Or did you find something else like a Torsen?

I'll be interested to see whether that causes any issues for you requiring reprogramming. Please keep us posted,

Yes, please keep us posted. If LSD is a direct swap, I see no reason to spend money on S.

Purchased as a new part, the 3.0S RWD diff is $10-12k depending on where you shop(!!).

My interest would not be in another OEM diff., but adding a Torsen. If the ratio change doesn't bollocks up the logic from 3.15 to 3.31, then I don't have to worry about finding the exact ratio (3.31 in my case).

I’m have a manual gearbox so should not be an issue with electronics.

Will let you know how the transplant goes
