Gas / petrol cap sticking
Anyone had issued]s with the gas / Petrol cap on their F-Type? Not the metal flap that covers the cap, but the round black plastic cap that you turn to open access to the fuel filler.
When I bought my 2017 SVR (CPO in 2019) the gas cap was quite hard to turn/open and even harder to get back in again. I was worried it might get jammed in so it was replaced on warranty. Play forward 3 years and I’m having the same issue again. Cap is getting progressively harder to turn and open, and very hard to close again. What’s going on? I don’t think it’s the fuel filler neck as when I replace it, the new one works perfectly. Do they swell up as they age?? Looks like I need to buy another one. But it’s a pain to have to buy it every few years…

I have had mine replaced under the CPO warranty. Same issues, at times I wasn't sure I'd be able to get it removed for the fill up! Seems much better now but occasionally it doesn't work as smoothly as it should.
Was just about to post this very question. Had the car for 3k miles and good grief this thing sticks. Removing it is hard enough that I can't expect my wife to accomplish the task. Putting it back on is easier but is still way harder than it should be. Was not an issue in previous XFs.
Same thing here. I have a 2018, bought new and I have 7400 miles. Mine just started doing this a month or so ago. I may try the light silicone treatment. I almost thought I would not be able to fiill up the first time it happened. I thought it was a fluke, but I keep having the same issue everytime I get gas.
good to hear I'm not the only one. I already replaced it once and it has started to do it again. Never had issue on my other Jags. It's odd... I'll try a dab of grease..

yes my gas cap on 2017 F type S was hard to get on and off - eventually I got a check engine light tied to this leak …… have to change the gas cap which costs almost $500 even tho the cap is < $100

Very common on these cars, I replaced them from time to time under warranty on cars, I'm sure it becomes more common as they age. An OEM cap shouldn't be too expensive, but any decent aftermarket option should work as well.
I do agree with a light layer of grease on the sealing ring. It helps with keeping any small leaks from happening as well.

Blimey, in the UK I got mine from Britcar for £38.39 delivered. Easy to self fit, too. I could have just replaced the broken rubber retainer, but I was lazy!
Not Armor-All (which is a quick-evaporating silicon) but as I said above, a smear of silicon grease (brake grease) on the threads and gasket mating surface will reduce the effort but not deteriorate the rubber.
