Default Genius Maps Conundrum

Someone please solve this puzzle for me. The Genius Maps app on my android works just fine, but when I connect my phone to the car the infotainment systems informs me that the Genius Maps trial subscription has expired and I need to pay up to use their service.
This doesn't make sense to me.

I have iPhone but I guess similar layout.
Try Genius maps / settings / vehicle connectivity .... see if you’ve purchased that.
Off topic but you could probably fit the UAD Android Auto/CarPlay unit to your car. Very easy fit in a coupé if you have Harmon Kardon system.

You are probably correct that it's the connectivity issue because I did not opt to purchase that, but I thought maybe the Android being connected would suffice for the Genius Maps. I normally use Waze as I'm not a big fan of the Jag nav system and would not likely use Genius either. It was more curiosity than anything.
Thanks for the reply.
