I am about to install a backup camera on the 2014 F-type convertible and I haven't found any good info on how to route the wire from the touch screen to the license plate. Any good info about this somewhere?
You can route the camera wire from the head unit down the center to the rear wall behind the driver's seat. From the trunk you need to remove these two panels - the center first (1) then the side panel (2) which are held in by plastic rivets. The side piece is removed by pulling medially and it will pop out. You can then remove the 10x10 foam plug to access the rear wall behind the seat. Using a coat hanger or stiff wire you should be able to snake through the rear wall gap and fish the camera wire through.
I found the only place to bring the wire to the outside was the rubber boot here. I didn't cut it but pushed the wire from the bottom then applied silicon caulk to prevent water intrusion. I removed the 2 plastic panels (3, 4) and continued the wire to where I threaded it to one of the multiple holes behind the license plate.
Do not replace anything (panels etc) until you are certain everything is working and the wire length is good. I did this years ago and water has never leaked into the trunk. I am sure there is a better, more elegant way to do it...
