Default Hello all

So no good deed goes unpunished. A "friend' totaled my X-type which was almost fully restored. My fault for loaning a car. Anywho, my wife gave me the green light to purchase an F-type as soon as we close on our new home in December.. i love the car and it looks beautiful with the top down. What I don't understand is why Jaguar did not make it a hard top convertible. I absolutely hate the look of the soft top so much I am getting a coupe. Just my preference. I do have a question though. What is the actual "to the wheels" HP on the AWD? I know the transmission will significantly hinder the numbers or am I incorrect? 2nd question; what years were the RWD-only made? I look forward to chatting with y'all whilst modding...

In US I am pretty sure the AWD started with 2016. Assuming you are talking about a V8 (R) You did not specify which you are referring to - HP is 550 BHP, with AWD you usually reduce 15-20% for the parasitic effect of transfer case, and differentials (guide only - not interested in a big debate - use whatever anyone likes or DYNO them). With the R you would likely have around 440-468 WHP using the 15-20% loss. SVR's came with 575 BHP stock.

In the US, AWD started in 2016. The R only came in RWD in 2015. the V6 was available in RWD for a few years more. You could get the convertible S as a V8 in 2014 and that was RWD. If you really want all in, the 2016 Project 7 has also RWD.

As for hardtop convertibles, that trend is dying fast. Soft tops are taking over again

Thank you. Yes, I am considering the V8 R. The V6 isn't too shabby either, but I don't want buyers remorse later

The reason for the soft top I'm sure is because a hard top convertible roof takes up more space compared to a soft top roof. The F-Type vert is already severely trunk space handicapped. A hard top probably would have made it intolerably worse.

PS: Sorry about your X-Type.

Soft tops look better with out the rear 1/3 design compromise hardtops require.

I would say the convertible is still the second best looking sports car currently in production. The design certainly does not put me off buying one. Having said that, we went for the coupe because we did not think the roof would be down all that much. Also, the coupe is the best looking car in production. It’s something about the hint of E-Type about the rear end I think.

Agreed, it's one of the best looking cars out there. I like the convertible, just with the top down though lol

There's a couple of us in Jacksonville, and even more in the north/north-central area. Be sure to let us know what you end up with. Personally, like many others, I prefer the look of the coupe, but the vert isn't horrible and looks like a Hotwheels car in some instances. My favorite angle:

I've now had both, first the convertible and now the coupe, with pano roof. Both are same color, IRR. The reason I bought the coupe was I like the way it looks better than the convertible with the top up. I had my convertible for 3 years. After owning the coupe for a year, I am wishing I had kept my convertible. To my eye, hands down, the convertible with the top down just looks fantastic, and very much a sports car. It is also much "tighter" than my coupe, far fewer rattles/squeaks. I still get comments at the gas pump with the coupe, but NOTHING like the number of people commenting on the convertible. I remember one time at the pump, had the top down, and a young man came over and said, "... man, that is a SICK car..." Cracked me up. The coupe does have more space in the back for traveling. It's a tough decision, and I still waver, but I'm pretty much still in love with all of them.

Very nice! You don't see many F-types around here, or any Jag for that matter. BTW, looking at your neighborhood seems like we'll actually be neighbors soon lol.

Seems the manufacturers are walking away from hard top converts anyway...too complex, too heavy, too much space, and not good for CG either. Exceptions seem to be mid-engined machines that have a different packaging and weight situation.
