I have been searching for the TSB that has the info on how JLR tells service how to prevent battery drain when connecting diagnostic tool.I thought it was just posted but can't seem to locate. It indicates the piece of equipment that tech is supposed to connect to battery. Any assistance appreciated.

 

The only thing I can find in the Workshop Manual that comes even close is the Showroom Support Unit protection device, SSU2-BPI.
It is some sort of dealer gizmo which connects to the two charging terminals under the hood to keep the battery happy while the car is in the showroom for an extended period. The special cables are meant to run down under the car to a box on the floor hidden under the car.
Probably not what you are after but you never know it just could be!

 

nothing more than a battery charger we use whenever using sdd. cannot do any programming if 12.5volts or less when sdd checks. this is true of ALL cars and MANUFACTURERS. low battery voltage is a big no no when programming modules. This is old info and have been doing this for I don't know 10 years or more

You don't need the Midtronic brand imo but you want low noise. I have the Astron RM-50. Easily does the job. A bit of overkill for my Model Year but you'll prolly want the 50 amp.

My questions are then these:

If I have an indie shop do my state vehicle inspection as I did two years ago should they follow these directions to avoid the low battery issue that then will arise from using the diagnostic tool? When the shop did it then I had the low battery issue right after. Solved by disconnect of battery and reconnect.

As this has been around for a long time with all manufacturers as Brutal indicates, why has this seemed to have surfaced with the f type (the low battery after diagnostic tool use)? Should I just disconnect and reconnect battery after the inspection and don't bother to show this to indie?

 

I think you are talking about the issue that F-Types supposedly have with a battery drain after something has been plugged in to the diagnostic port. That is not related to the requirement to use a battery support unit while using SDD.

 

+1. I assumed you were intending on using SDD. If they're doing a system check, a simple battery charger as Brutal indicated should suffice.
