Default High Pitch Droning Between 70-80 MPH

Hi all,

Yesterday I purchased my new to me 2016 Jaguar F-Type S AWD. I purchased it out of state, and I noticed a concerning sound pretty early into my ~1000 mile trip home. It's a harsh high pitched buzzing sound.
You can hear it
.

I really start to hear the sound at around 73 mph and it gets louder until about 78 mph where it peaks, and almost fully disappears at around 83 and above. I hear the sound whether I'm on the gas or foot off the pedal.

I have ran through gears 6, 7, 8, and even neutral. For each gear the sound was still occurring just within that speed range. RPM had no discernible effect on the noise. Also happens with AC on or off.

Unfortunately I can't tell which direction it is coming from in relation to me. Does anyone have any experience with this issue, or theories on what the source of the sound might be? I need to get back, but want to make sure I won't be causing any damage by continuing to drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have a coupe? Some folks have had the rubber seal around the hatch resonate, and have glued it down.

Yes, this is the coupe. I did notice that there's a little play on the edges of the weather stripping where the hatch closes. You think that piece could make such a noise?

I have a convertible, so I can’t answer. Check out this thread…

Yep, it'll be those weather stripping seals for sure.
I never had the noise but on my car both seals showed gaps so I closed the gaps and stuck the seals down hard using black RTV silicone windscreen sealant, and have never had a problem since.

Thanks guys. I'll try the sealant trick in the next few days and report back.

Just the verify the seal in question: it is the flat wide seal that sits in the channel at the left and right side of the hatch opening, not the rubber seal that goes around the entire opening.

I taped down the edge of the weather stripping with some masking tape, but the sound persisted. I brought it in to be inspected by a Jaguar dealership and they found that the sound was coming from the rear differential. The diff fluid was thick and dark and "filled with metal". They recommend replacing the rear diff due to internal damage. The bill I'm looking at for this service is $7,068. Luckily the vehicle came with a 90 day warranty backed by the seller and I'm planning on utilizing that.
