Default Jaguar F-Type Lowering Springs - How much drop?

Hi Everyone,

Have started the ball rolling with some lowering springs for the F-Type Coupe, both the V6 and the V8.

I would be interested in some views from current/future/prospective owners. What would be your ideal drop? I'm thinking something in the 0.5-.75 inch range, ie - noticeable but not silly.

What do you guys think?

Would the drop in height enable the car to better put the power down to the road when coming out of a corner? I would be most interested in mods that would do that

I'm not well versed enough to answer that definitively, I think that as a blanket statement it's not necessarily accurate to say Yes or No. Probably depends upon what the spring rates are and being well integrated with the dampers etc.

However, in theory, lowering the center of gravity and shortening the spring will produce less body roll, hopefully better weight transfer & distribution and could well help traction.

All depends on a well integrated solution though, a lowering spring that is too stiff might make traction worse on bumpy surfaces.

Stuart, as you suggest, I think a modest .5/.75 inch drop would work well. Clearly, spring rates/ride quality would need to be considered. Wheel spacers would be great as well. I'm running the 20" Gyrodyne wheels on my Type R and it would be nice to push the wheels out a bit to be closer to flush with the wheel arches.

What he said!

BTW, anyone know if you have to disassemble any of the interior to get to the rear shock mounts? I haven't really looked closely yet.

There are at least 3 or 4 people who have lowered their f type on here. I remember that 2 of them had thrown codes but I think they just recalibrated, and at least 2 others had no issues at all. I'd point you to the thread but I'm on my phone at lunch. Just search, you'll find it.

Hi Charlie,

Our head office is just over in Bridport. We have a container of our own VelocityAP designed lowering springs coming into stock around the 9th of April if you are interested.

£417 + VAT & Fitting for the R Coupe, £357 for all the other models.

F-Type V8R Coupe

Stuart, Will you be making lowering springs for the 2016 AWD R coupe?

Based on the way all the other F-Type Springs cross-referenced I would be surprised if these end up being different to our existing R Coupe springs.

But if they are we will certainly make them.

Since the AWD has a different ride height (obviously for a reason) do you think you'll encounter additional issues?

It is possible, what we'll need to do is get original parts and put them on a testing rig to see.

Stuart, will you eventually be offering a dual disc clutch/lightened flywheel combo for the F-Type like you do for the Aston?

Having lowered several of my previous cars using everything from just springs (with the first Xmm coilbound at the new ride height), through to variable damping adjustable ride height coilovers, less change is better if you're not changing the dampers.

Obviously, the degree of preload on the spring will make a difference, but 10-15mm seems to be the Sweet Spot for road use.

I don't have plans at present, but if the interest is there we will do it. Is still early for clutch replacement on these cars so the timing might not be right.

But if you're interested in working on something we can talk

Waiting for the first clutch to fry is certainly the most cost effective plan, but getting rid of the dual mass clutch and getting a lightweight flywheel for faster, crisper shifts may outweigh that consideration. Let me know when you're ready for a test mule. Since there's just a handful of 6 speed F-Types in customers' hands at this point, I can understand that you wouldn't even have a market for this yet (except for one data point).
