Default Jaguar ICE Sedan Production to End in June 2024

https://robbreport.com/motors/cars/j...mp-1235532657/

Jaguar is going SUV-only. At least for a little bit.

The storied British marque will stop building cars in the coming months in preparation for its all-electric revamp, according to Autocar. The company will continue to build its current crop of crossovers and SUVs through the end of the year. The automaker currently builds three cars, including its one sports car, the F-Type, and two saloons, the XE and XF (the XE hasn’t been sold in the U.S. since 2020). All three models, which each come with traditional gas-powered engines, will cease to be built at the automaker’s Castle Bromwich factory this June, according to the publication. The XF and F-Type can still be ordered as of today in the U.S., but are reportedly only being built to set specifications. That means that customers will be limited in the ways they can customize the models.

Jaguar’s current generation of cars may be heading for retirement, but their SUV counterparts still have a little more life in them. The company plans to continue building the E-Pace, F-Pace, and its first all-electric model, the I-Pace, through the end of 2024. While production of all six vehicles is winding down, Joe Eberhardt, parent company JLR’s North American president and CEO, told the publication there will be enough stock available to last until its next waves of EVs are ready to hit the market in Europe and the U.S.

“We’re trying to time it so we have enough volume to take us through to the launch of the new product and have a clean handover,” the executive said. “Whether it will be as perfectly planned as that, we’ll see—maybe we’ll sell out more quickly, or maybe it will take a little longer to sell through the current inventory.“

Representatives for Jaguar did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Robb Report.

Next year will see the debut of an new all-electric Jaguar. The first vehicle of the is expected to be a battery-powered grand tourer with over 575 hp and a 400-plus-mile range. It will be followed in 2026 by an SUV and a saloon that will both fall firmly in the luxury category, according to Autocar. Little is known about the trio of battery-powered vehicles except that they will be built on the Jaguar’s new JEA electric platform and be completely different from the I-Pace and other current models.

I think the ending of big engine sports cars (F-Type, Camaro, Challenger/Charger, etc) is creating FOMO as it was a huge decision in me buying a 2024 F-Type as its a "last of its kind" type of vehicle.

I also believe this ICE FOMO is hurting the EV market as people realize BEVs all look like boring sedans or station wagons.

It was the primary reason why I sold my 2018 V6 and bought a new 2023 V8 in 2022. I figured it may be the last chance for me to buy a ridiculously beautiful V8 sports car for that truly visceral experience. I don't regret it for a second.

The big problem with EVs is the battery tech - apart from being highly dangerous if it goes into thermal runaway, the push for "more range" means ever bigger batteries, so ever bigger vehicles. Making big, expensive, heavy vehicles doesn't strike me as being the way to a sustainable future, regardless of emissions.

I'm playing the long game with my F Type. I didn't buy it for anyone else but me and will keep if for a long, long time. The best machine I've ever owned and regardless of where Jaguar as a company goes, I'm glad I've secured my little piece of automotive magic. But frankly, "Grace, Space, and Pace" suits EV-based Jaguar motivation mode pretty dang well. I hope they hit it out of the park.

Misleading article.

Electric transition is the first step to the zero emissions target. Once you have moved energy from cars to ONE POINT (Thermoelectric power plant) you have only to change the energy source in ONE point. Example , once the power plant will be nuclear, you have
instantaneously transformed all the (electric) cars on the roads in nuclear energy cars. Simple!

This may be true, but there's a lot of pushback against nuclear power - Germany has dumped all theirs and is now importing electricity from France's, er, nuclear power plants. Maybe we should invest in small (tiny) nuclear power plants for cars and trucks like they do in submarines - limitless cheap energy!

Yes but nuclear energy is an example. You dont like nuclear, you can use solar power ,eolic, geotermal power, hidrogen, what you want. The point is you have to change only 1 source point.

Not if the sun don't shine! An Aussie politician apparently said "you can charge your EV overnight from your solar panels". Nuclear is 24/7.

One might believe that somebody at JLR would take note of the "CLIFF STRAIGHT AHEAD," sign and reconsider their path.

They can't decide whether to turn left or right, so just carry straight on and hope for the best? Might not work .....

I think the bigger issue is that they want these to be at Bentley prices. If I was looking at spending $500K on a car (so I guess it might be $200K US), it wouldnt be on a Jag, as much as I am a fan. Especially not an electric one

Given some of the difficulties Jag dealers have now fixing electrical issues, this is not likely to work well for the consumer. Wonder why they don't go with the Flux Capacitor. It's been around for a while and it's "timeless". I wonder what affect this will have on the used F-Type values.

Good example of those at the top making decisions while being disconnected from the ultimate client - THE CUSTOMER !

Does anyone remember when Coke changed the recipe ???

CLASSIC COKE !

HA HA HA

I fear JLR has built a snowball, it's headed down the hill and has achieved so much mass and weight, it cannot be stopped.

DISASTER AWAITS !

BEST !

The main problem was that no government consulted customers before imposing their "everything's electric" mantra.
