Default Jaguar Vehicle Protection plan / used warranty?

I just got a quote for a Jaguar Vehicle Protection plan from my local dealership, and it's four years / 75k miles for $5480. It's for a 2016 F-Type R coupe that currently has 56k miles.

I'm only planning on driving the car for ~3 years, very low mileage (5k miles per year).. does a plan like this make any sense? It's a lot more than I expected. I'd be getting a PPI before picking up this car.. is it risky to not get a warranty?

I would look at Fidelity platinum or one of those other plans, but I'm in California and as I understand it, I can't get a non-dealership used car warranty for some legal reason.

Somehow doesn’t make sense to spend over $5500 to protect the car for the miles you’ll drive it beyond warranty (11,000 miles) .

I didn’t think so, I just wanted to check to see if there’s any big issues that could pop up between 56k and 71k miles and be more pricey than $5500.

I purchased my 15 “R” last month with just 17k miles and I purchased a 4 year 48k mile warranty with zero deductible for 4068.00. After owning a 2010 XKR with 41k miles also with an extended warranty. That warranty company covered three coolant leaks, a water pump and front crank shaft seal.... which was over 3200.00 in repairs in the first four months I was thankful I did. I then traded it in for my F-Type and got back all but 600 bucks and I was very thankful again. I owned the XKR for less then a year and just over 1k miles driven. The next owner should be happy as it’s good to go for a long time now that I fixed it. Lol

Whatever you decide don't buy Red Shield from a dealer, they treat you like a criminal if you have a claim.

Long time lurker here, I'm in the same boat as the OP. I've had my 2016 R convertible for over a year now and it currently has 22,300 miles on it. The car has been trouble free except at the end of a 2-day road trip when an O2 sensor died due to the all the firecrackers out back.
I use the car occasionally (spring to autumn), and about 2 to 3 weekends per month (I put about 7400 miles) since I purchased it. I intend on either letting it go fairly shortly (since the factory warranty expires at the end of July) or keeping for another year or two.

Based on what I've read on the forums these last ~5 years, it seems that: while rare (maybe 2 cases), the convertible top is PIA to replace and costs more than $10K. I don't intend on tuning, and it also seems that any massive engine problems usually are associated with tuned cars, and that stock cars generally are trouble free. I have a first year AWD model, so again I'm not sure how well it and the rest of the transmission will hold up over the next 1 to 2 years. Maintenance has always been done with a JLR dealer, one of which didn't tighten the oil filter resulting in a 1L oil loss from the dealership to home. I was told that the leak would not compromise the integrity of the engine.

So just weighing in, what do long term F Type owners (and generally those who have owned high powered vehicles like these over the long term) think about buying an "extended warranty" from JLR (it's just essentially an insurance policy where things like the O2 sensors won't be covered, but major stuff including covertible tops are)? This is my first performance car so all very new territory for me. I was quoted similar conditions but for 2 years, but about 2000 USD less. On a side note, even though I've had it for over a year, I still get weak marvelling at how beautiful it looks every time I see it!

Thanks in advance!

I am aware of only one engine failure with a tune, and we suspect that was due to low oil while the car was on a dyno just after the tune. Most other engine failures seem to be low oil level related as well.
