Default License Plate Screws

TI'm tying to put on a license plate frame but the screws that came with the car are too short went to Lowes and tried 6 different sizes none fit seems to be between a #8 and a #10.

Does anyone know the size of the license plate screws?

It’s a 3mm screw. Lowe’s and Home Depot won’t have it. Go to any Ace Hardware affiliate. They have a whole row of fastener bins with all kinds of useful fasteners, but most importantly metric hardware.
Most car parts stores will also have metric plate fastener sets with the screws and fancy chrome caps to cover the screws.

I just conducted an exhaustive search for anti-theft license plate screws. I looked at every independent hardware store and major chain in the area. I ended up with these:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt...1091/204675174

They fit perfectly and cost $1.18.

Default Don't go to Jaguar dealership

I just purchased a chrome license plate frame from my dealer. I asked the parts guy for stainless screws/fasteners as recommended by Jaguar. He told me to use the screws that the dealership used to attach the original plate. I then asked a salesman if he knew the thread size so I could look elsewhere for stainless screws. He said the black screws they used were universal and just fine.

Anyway, I put the official Jaguar frame on and discovered the screw caps are too small to cover the screw heads. I guess I'll check an Autozone.

This was my first accessory purchase. Maybe I need to shop Amazon rather than Jaguar.

Since you have to go to Ace, splurge for the stainless steel metric screws, they look nicer.

I got black stainless sheet metal pan head screws at the hardware store, worked great. Don’t recall the size, possibly #8. I have a bag in the glovebox, but the car is in storage, under wrap.

Griot's Garage has a kit with theft resistant screws in a variety of sizes. I have used them on my Jags and they work very well.

Thanks all. I'll look for an Ace this weekend. Even with the black screws on there now that chrome frame sure looks good.
