It really depends on what one owned before an F Type.
I own Audi A5 B9 apart from Jag, so what I instantly noticed - sound insulation is not as good, braking is worse, however some say that it's "superb" even with basic brakes. Plastic is cheaper. Overall build quality is worse (windows feel weaker, also when it's cold they freeze easier), sound and infotainment are also not as good. Lots of stuff could be done better - why does the car always turn seat heating off between starts? And this dumb trunk button that's always dirty... Also why the hell when I wash the car, the foam gets under the doors? Well' that's probably ok, it doesn't go on and over the sills anyway. But damn, why do you switch to radio automatically when my phone's not here, Jag?
But some of the above is relative. I just expected some things to be better for the price I paid. I probably take for granted those that are better.
The handling is cool! Exhaust, the looks - woooow. I like the seats, drove 800km once, felt great. Sometimes I forget what car I'm in, and then I catch staring drivers and pedestrians showing thumb ups and realize once again - let my wife drive Audi further, not gonna ever give her my Jag. Sorry if english is bad.
I like the way it makes you feel as a driver. You feel particularly connected, which only a few cars offer. I like the value proposition of the car. Dollar for dollar I don't think many cars offer this level of value for money. I like the way that when I leave a parking lot, I feel almost compelled to glance back at it and "double check everything's locked", and be awash with satisfaction that that jag is mine.
I like the visceral feel, the way it takes turns. I like the silky smooth gear changes, coupled with paddle shifters which allow you to explore all the various rumbles and sounds the car can make. I like the car's fit and finish, and attention to detail. Things like the weave design in the cabin, with the gloss black surround. The way the vents rise above the center cabin. The grab bar that tells your passenger might be in for a faster ride.
I like that it turns what may be an everyday, mundane trip into one of an adventure. You find excuses to want to go out and drive the F type.
What I don't like about the car is a smaller list. Some trims may feel heavy. Mine does, which is a V8 R AWD. I wish it was lighter. It looks like it would be a lighter car, but it isn't. I have the coo-pay, I wish the pano roof was not fixed, and you could open it, and experience the sounds more. Rolling down the windows helps, but that ability would be a cherry on top. I suppose the vert would be a less appealing alternative then.
I don't like some of the buttons, namely those on the steering wheel (volume up/down, etc.). They're somewhat sticky and not very seamless. I don't like the SAT Nav either, which for some model years is slower than you'd expect. I understand in a car like this, the sat nav may not be a focal point. I don't want a computer on wheels. But, typing on the sat nav on a Model year 2016 is testing of your patience.
I don't like that some of the panel alignment, noticeably around the hood area, is evident when going over many of the cars with a finer toothcomb. This is apparently a known issue.
Regrets? The trips I did not take. When it was raining or busy, these are lost opportunities. I want to regain and re-experience them. This is just one of the reasons I plan to keep mine for many, many years.

Dislikes:
1. Panel gaps/fitment: lower border of door meets sills and hood/bonnet to the front bumper; loose left side mirror, poor seal around window (can see moisture during careful car washing)
2. Wrinkly convertible top fabric
3. Leather doesn't seem high quality. Doors feel cheap when opening/closing
4. Seats cannot be fully reclined otherwise squeaks and creaks will be heard
5. Electronic dipstick (and time it takes to follow protocol)
6. Easily scratched/always dirty side sills
7. Navigation/computer so slow
8. Attention from others (attracts tailgaters, other loud/fast cars, young guys wanting to race, mostly other guys)
9. Constant fear of scratching/damaging (front sensors seem slow)
10. No locking gas cap/lid
11. Road noise is loud above 110 km/hr
12. Odd shaped trunk space
13. Car throws rocks at itself (many scratches just before rear wheels)
14. Depreciation
Likes:
1. Looks
2. Sound
3. Power
4. Fuel economy
5. Low(ish) cost for maintenance
6. Fast open/close movement of convertible top
7. Great AWD system (great for launches)
8. Car is fun top down driving through mountains/long road trips
9. Decent visibility
10. Comfortable seats/good for long trips
11. Convenient location of buttons
12. Excellent service associated with dealers
13. Decent wind noise control with top down
These pros/cons may not be exclusive to this car. I wouldn't use this as my daily, but on roads less travelled, it is worth every penny! The combination of passing power, sound, comfort and esthetics are second to none in its price bracket. It is a special vehicle, and you definitely experience it! I've had some issues with O2 sensors and an oil cooling unit, but they were taken care of under warranty. Provided you find a well care for vehicle, used models are an insane bargain. In retrospect, I would have waited an additional year to purchase my 2016 R (dropped in value by about $20,000 since I bought it used), or bought a 2017 R instead with the better navigation system. I would still buy the convertible again (never considered one before) as the top down sound is completely different than the top up-windows down experience. I can't even count the number of huge smiles it has given me (nor the little nagging thought about if it would break).
For used F-type money, I cannot think of another car that comes close to matching it in stats, looks and luxury.
It depends on the spec as the car can look a bit cheap in certain specs whereas in others it is quite luxurious. Assuming however that it is in a decent spec, in an RWD, and with the meridian audio and with the adaptive suspension and the camera etc it ticks a lot of boxes to an extent where I have no plans on getting rid of mine after nearly 4 years when I usually am looking to change at about 2.
There are a few fundamental things though. The car is low so it isnt the easiest thing to get in and out of especially in tight spaces especially with the design pack skirts which mean you have to throw your legs out further. The OEM wheels dont fill out the arches, weigh heaps and handling is noticeably improved by shifting to forged. They dont have OEM drilled or slotted rotors - look I appreciate that they are really more for aesthetics but this is a horny looking car and it deserves decent rotors. Here are the most first world of first world issues - the black pack still leaves silver badges, and the ambient lighting only changes some lights and leaves the others the standard colour.
Probably the only other thing is that driving an auto six, you are tortured over the question of whether you should have bought a manual. Everything about driving the car screams that manual would be better, but the auto is amazingly good and so easy to live with. Which really means that you should buy both.
I second the lists above and add of some lesser mentioned items:
Exclusivity. There is nothing like an F on the road and there are very few of us.
The 2014 F introduced engine sound as a primary attribute of the modern sportscar and in 2020 is often imitated but never matched. The pedal plus gear selection gives you control over more exotic engine noises than car reviewers understand from reverberating howls to roars to burbles to war zones.
The paint quality is like a telescope mirror in a sea of orange peel and body ripples. Ferrari and Corvette paint are particularly shameful. A quality paint job alone costs well into 5 figures.
Supercharging instead of turbocharging. Unmatched engine sound and better than normally aspirated throttle response.
The car is easily DIY modded to ~650 HP with a pulley and tune for around $1000.
In 40 years of car ownership I have never own an automatic sportscar, but the ZF8 is perfectly implemented and makes automatic Fs as fun as a manual, if not more fun at times. The 8 passes almost all of the torque through, giving the car a lot more wheel horsepower than the engine numbers suggest, plus a 30 mpg highway cruise at 1200 RPM at 60 mph with its 330 mph gearing in 8th. The choice between paddle and stick shifting is perfectly done, as is the radio volume knob next to the stick shift as you hand can operate both at the same time.
Best convertible ever. Twitchf00t mentioned the quick top. I think its advertised as taking 12 seconds at up to 30 mph, but the roof is much quicker to tuck-in since the last part to drop are the poles and pole covers on each side, so you only need to be under 30 mph for 3-5 seconds if you've already dropped the windows. The convertible bathes you in engine sound like no other car. The convertible weighs the same as the coupe making it an amazing ragtop opportunity. The top is very solid and well insulated compared to other luxury brands.
The seat adjustments are superb and very well implemented.
Large and wide trunk for a convertible with a deep center bucket. A full size grocery cart is np even with the OEM tire inflator, cleaning supplies, my battery powered buffer and battery powered leaf blower for drying.
Build quality permeates the whole car and reliability is top tier as a daily driven.
Dislikes
The OEM PZeros can't handle 325 HP/tire and result in RWD wheel spin through 5th gear even starting at highway speeds. MP4Ss are excellent in the rain but not sticky enough to move a V8 RWD under full power in dry conditions or even on a prepared drag strip, leaving pricey tires as the only fast V8 RWD option. This one could be my biggest like too.
The OEM rear speakers are mostly MIA.
The digital screens are a little too dark in direct sun, but we do have analog gauges. My choice would be to lose all the digital screens and be the first car in history to incorporate a phone mount.
The car shifts into Park if you open the door to see a parking line or curb.
Digital drain, a few years on the AGM battery, and short trips benefit from a battery tender or the car can harmlessly freak out and no start.
Highly subjective, depends on what you're coming from and what you're looking for.
For me the disappointments can be summarised as "this is a modern car?" The fit and finish and interior qualities (particularly technologies used: infotainment, climate, cameras etc) really are from a previous generation. They've gotten marginally better since launch (cooled seats, Carplay/Android Auto, etc.) but there are so many details that a $30k Honda nails that the Jag is hopeless on in comparison. Secondarily, and this is true of all modern cars, it's heavy; hard to get around that in a car from the last 20 years.
The delights are what everyone has and will continue to mention: beauty, sound, the way it makes you feel every time...
F-type is a moving art, you are just current custodian of it. As you are driving it, you can be certain that some smart and successful kid out there will be looking for one in 20 years, because he/she remembers how it felt when you drove by him/her today.
Dislikes:
8. Attention from others (attracts tailgaters, other loud/fast cars, young guys wanting to race, mostly other guys)
So a plus for chicken hawks.
This is actually a huge compliment to Jaguar, the biggest criticism against whom was the inability to connect with the youth.
They gone from catering exclusively to the 'pipe & slippers' crowd to creating a social lubricant.
Much of this is repeats of what other people said, but I'll add my own list of each:
Cons:
The moon roof cover often gets stuck. It's very hard to pull it back some days. Hot days, it's much easier.
No locking gas door. In previous cars, if the car was locked, so was the gas door
Blind spots. Lots of them. I learned how to properly adjust the mirrors to further out and that helped, but there are still big blind spots when you are trying to enter traffic at an angle
Engine cover. Pop the hood of a Maserati and it's artistry. Pop the hood of this (the hood opening is very cool) and it's a big lego block
The cockpit feels a little claustrophobic
No spare tire
The horribly outdated infotainement system. JLR could have done much better. My SO's 2016 Discovery Sport had what looked like the same system, but it had many more features
The sound system just isn't what it should be in a car of this level. My '08 Audi S5 sounded so much better
The turn signal noise. Hear me out on this one. They put the speaker for the turn signal indicator right by the mic for the hands free phone. I get a lot of complaints about the noise in phone calls
Pros:
This car made me love driving again. It's a time machine to my high school self, but not in a 'I bought a 77 Trans Am' kind of way. It taps into the whole loud, raw and yet somehow refined thing. I had a 2006 GTO that I though was the perfect blend of old/new. This thing is better in every way.
The exhaust when starting the car.
The exhaust when driving the car
The exhaust when downshifting
The looks. I can not stop taking pictures of this car
The long drive experience
The surprisingly good fuel economy for freeway driving
The acceleration
Sure, it's heavy, but it handles very well once the P-Zeros are switched out.
I'm sure I'm forgetting things. In the list of both good and bad, the nanny system won't let you do smokey burnouts. That's both bad and good. I knew going it it was not an Audi (had the Audi dealer been less douchey when I was car shopping, I'd be driving an S5 Sportback today). Audi's budget for the turn signal noise is probably bigger than JLR's entire budget for the interior. I just don't care, though. This car is my daily driver and I have ZERO regrets about purchasing it. I plan on keeping this car until I'm a crippled old man, and then I'll move it into the living room.
Just to start I am not new to the Jaguar Brand. I have had a 2004 XJ8 for 11 years the car has been great no major issues. It has 115k on it.
So my comparison is to my XJ8
I have only owned my 2014 F type S V8 for 3 weeks.
So I will start with what I don't like and have some experience with.
1. Its disturbing to see the number of these cars with failed cooling system components. I say this because the cooling system is probably the most critically important
life support system in any car. If you lose coolant you could only have a few minutes before you toast your engine. It's the equivalent to bleeding out fast from a major wound.
2. Degrading Interior plastic trim parts and the stickiness of them. To be fair my friends Ferrari has the same issue and is worst. Other euro cars also have this issue.
That being said its no excuse for a car costing that much for the plastic to degrade at any temperature. I can speak on this as I design plastic parts and the
choices in material's and temp ranges is vast. Why is this important to me first it affects the value of the car and the brand quality. Second its just gross feeling to put
your finger on a button and then stick to it. Its not just buttons either, door handle trim, screen bezel etc.
3 There are other minor things to me that may be more important to others. No locking fuel door even my 2004 older XJ8 has this. Informant system is so so...not a big deal to me. Audio is ok my car has the surround system a $1200 dollar up grade not as good sounding as the Bowers and Wilkin in my XJ. I can not see how anyone can complain about the boot/trunk size. Come on guys and girls its a 2 seat sports car.
What I do like
1. The car is a 3 headed monster: in drive (head 1) nice friendly but responsive, in sport (head 2) bit of touchiness getting anxious feeling, in dynamic (head 3)
the cars wants to just take off and explode, mean mother!
2. l love the sound of this badass cat! The active exhaust button is a nice feature.
3. Handling is great, scary good to me, almost makes you to confidant. The ride is as it should be for a sports car not harsh or to sedan feeling.
4. braking is good on my car. It has the performance brakes front and rear.
5. Interior parts I do like. The layout is good to me, no complaint's. everything is accessible to me at least. Seats are very comfortable. Leather quality is as good as my XJ8. Carpets and Mats are also very good. Door pockets small but are fine. Glove box is as big as they could have made it imop. Center console and cubby between the seats are as expected. given the size of the car and interior space.
6. The exterior of the car is stunning if you ask me. Great lines and overall Beautiful car! The boot view is like looking at a great ***. The paint quality seems good on my car. I love the Firesand Orange color, although I have not seen any colors I hated either.
7. 20" Blade wheels and the tire sizes make the car look like it means business and has a great stance.
This is my first Roadster/convertible so I guess I will find out the good and or bad about that.
My advise to anyone buying a used car is do your research and not get emotional over any car you find.
If you want to see what kind of issues any car make and or model may have do lots of typing for answers but be subjective as people can over or understate problem.
The carfax site that lists used cars also gives you access to the listed cars reports Those reports will list repairs in detail sometimes. I looked at F types and saw Lots of cars with water pump replacements at or about 20k in miles. Also tire issues were very prevalent.
One of my good friend restores vintage Jags and does select work on newer ones. Says this about any higher end cars. People buy them without thinking when they need to be maintained or repaired it costs 10 to 25% more then most cars. So factor that into buying if you can not service them yourself.
Likes: Mostly everything. Arguably the most beautiful on the road
Dislikes: Jaguar modifying the original front shark gills look multiple times...none of which look nearly as good as the original concept. Headlights on the 2021
people have covered almost everything. i've only had mine about 2 months but two things are annoying the heck out of me that i didn't see mentioned. first, we are STILL chasing interior rattles. been in the shop 3 separate times. frustrating. second, i haven't been able to get used to the heated windshield (though of course other cars have them too). i hate looking through the squiggly lines. i don't even know how to use it, as i never will use it here in CA.

I agree with those who stated that these lists are highly dependent on trim level, personal taste and probably the specific car, as I have not experience a whole lot of the negatives listed and I do have a lot of miles driven on my car.
My previous car was a new '12 AMG SLK55 and it is arguably a " better" car. But I wouln't go back from the Jag for any reason. It's a great roadster and great fun. But it is a sports car so there are plenty of little things that might bother an individual. I could care less about the Nav and mine is the original. I have the upgraded interior in Brogue which means it is great to me. I pretty much have have every thing available on the '14 Except the 12k brakes and larger wheels. Very happy with car.
