Question Locking F-Type from Passenger Door

Finally got an F-Type a few weeks ago! One oddity that I've encountered is that I can't lock the car from the passenger-side door. When pushing the handle in, it just pops back out. On the driver's side, it works just fine. I assume that this is not normal functionality.

1) Are you able to lock your car from the passenger side using the door handle?
2) How can I diagnose/fix mine? Is it the door handle switch? Is it a smart key antenna issue?

Mine recently started this, but it seems to be a problem with the keyless entry radio reception.

Try this: Hold the key fob low and just to the rear of the passenger door, then try again. Mine will work when I do this so I suspect it's related to the antenna. It might be the antenna, but could also be the door module, or maybe a connection. Oh, and another thing to try. Does the door unlock by pushing the little button? If that works, it's not the radio reception and more likely something in the handle.

Definitely a problem - you should be able to lock the car from both doors.

Yes, I forgot about that detail: I CAN unlock it from the passenger side, I just can't lock it. I will try to have the key in the spots you mentioned and see if that change anything.

If it unlocks by pushing the button on the handle, the smart key is being read. I can lock/unlock the passenger side from the fob, but using the door handle I now need to hold the fob close to the antenna behind the panel. Of course, this started just after my warranty expired

I confirmed that I can unlock the car with the door button but can't lock it with the handle from the passenger side.

You don't mention if your F-Type is new/used. If it's used, try replacing the battery in the FOB. It may be just marginal enough that the proximity sensors aren't picking it up on that side.
It uses a common CR2032

If he can unlock the battery should be good enough. It's only the locking that seems to be the issue.

Crazy timing! Mine just did this last night and again this morning. Car beeped at me and wouldn't let me lock the car from the passenger side handle. Button works fine to unlock. My original warranty expires in July and a problem like this probably isn't covered by a CPO.

I think you have a different problem than I do. I'm not getting any feedback from the car when I'm trying to lock the car from the passenger side. There's the button press, and there's the push the whole handle in technique. Neither option works from the passenger side. When pushing the handle in all the way, it just pops out again. No beeping for me. If it beeps at you, that typically means that one of the doors or bonnet are not fully shut.

I have not tried replacing the batteries in my fob, but I don't think that's an issue because I can unlock the car from the passenger side just fine.

It may well not be the fob battery, but it sure would be easy. There's a difference between transmitting the lock/unlock commands and proximity (and it could be the car's sensor on the passenger side that's causing the issue). If you don't have a spare battery handy, at least check using the other fob.

Meanwhile, on the previous post, you are correct that a beep and failure to lock generally means that something is left open. It doesn't have to be a door, it can also be the trunk or hood. However, an open switch should be a problem no matter which side you're on, or whether you're locking manually or with the fob. And, it CAN be a bad sensor that just THINKS something's open. If the car doesn't think the hood is secure, you can't lock it. (Been there, done that.)

Interesting. I'll double check it again this afternoon afterwork. I did place a lage box in the trunk this morning, but the hatch seemed to close all the way. The passenger handle would go in, beep at me, and then come back out. I tried twice. However, it did lock via the botton on the remote.

The beep can mean "I'm not secure, so can't lock" but I think can also mean "I don't see a fob, so I don't have to do what you say."

So any suggestions how to further troubleshoot or fix this?

I think we were at this point:

1) Car locked, push little button on passenger door handle. Door unlocks.
2) Push in on door handle. Door does not lock.
3) Push "lock" button on fob. Door locks.

The first shows the smart key is working. The third shows the door is able to lock, i.e. doors are secured and that the lock itself works. That leads to second, where the trigger to lock is failing, which I believe is all in the handle.

I haven't taken any of this apart, but the handle is a mechanical part and subject to wear. It could be a connection to the handle or at the door control module or some other wiring, but the handle is my best bet.

Did you try using the other FOB and get the same result?
