My experience is Discount will match Tire Rack if you add up delivery and install. Costco price seems great!

Bumping as I don't think it's worth starting a new thread just to say this.

Just got back from a 4,300 Km trip through Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria and Germany. Put a full set of 255 / 305 4Ses on before we went.

The difference in grip in ALL conditions compared to the Pzeros is remarkable. They are also so much more progressive when they break away, there is none of that glassy feeling that you get with the Pirellis in the wet. I would thoroughly recommend them to everyone, but particularly those in a RWD R like I am - we need all the help we can get with grip!

I spent last 2 weeks with 4S, and it has been raining almost non-stop here. So far I have been very impressed with wet handling.

There are people who rub this car with a diaper and never drive it. Then there's us. There is a better thread, and the timing is perfect....

I started a road trip thread some time back, and did my own 4200 national park road trip in the States. Your's sounds worthy of massive photo albums too. I will find all my albums, and post them in that thread to bump them. SO MANY jag photos. =)

I will bump this when I finally do it, and link that thread.

What I am saying is that I would love to see any pics you have to share.

Not that this will surprise anyone, but Car&Driver tested various tires and picked MS4S as the winner.

2017 Performance Summer Tire Test | Feature | Car and Driver

Personally, I think MS4S approach Cup 2 in performance, minus the hassle of everyday commute on track tires.

Anyone else got any first hand experience with the 4S? I need tyres for the XKR and I'm thinking of going for these...

I wouldn't throw away P zeros, but when its time to replace, the 4s's are a pretty nice upgrade. Just switched a month ago. On my R Couple, the P zeros, especially the rear made quite a racket on the freeway, 4s's are much quieter. And on a RWD car, the improvement in grip under acceleration is very noticeable. Haven't driven my car in the rain ever so cannot speak to wet handling.

FWIW, I have had pilot super sports on my M3 for a few years, and I'd say the difference in grip and noise between the pilot super sport and the 4s, at least on dry roads, is minimal.

I put a set of 4S on a couple of weeks ago. I have a RWD V8S and didn't really have a lot of confidence in the grip of the P Zero's, always felt easy to break traction. The 4S seem to be a decent upgrade - am impressed with the grip so far.

me too

and after my first spirited drive on (what should be world famous) Mosquito Ridge Road with @speedski I confirm what others are saying about much better grip. Definitely recommend!

I thought the P Zeros were good tires, but the 4S is an incremental improvement over the P Zeros in both grip and ride comfort.

Cambo, if you decide to get the 4S then your best bet is to import them from the good ol' US of A, the price over there is about half what you will pay in Oz even allowing for the exchange rate. On the downside the cost of postage/shipping is a bit steep, but you will still come out well ahead. In the past I have bought tyres from Tire Rack this way, big savings and good service, there may be other sellers in the US with even cheaper prices that also ship to Oz.

Hi guys,
How do we know it's an honest unbiased review/verdict. How do we know the magazine didn't accept some type of significant payment to promote the winning tire. I can't be the only one thinking this thought.
What you say ....

I can not say but I can say the article only confirmed my own observations.

I bought the car used with the P-Zeros and I was literally afraid of the car in dynamic mode.

I could hardly step on the gas without the rear breaking loose and trying to get around the front.

I have nothing good to say about the P-Zeros.

The Michelin 4S's have excellent grip and I have been able to better drive the car the way it should be driven without so much worry about the rear tires breaking traction and swerving all over the road.

I think in this particular case, it is a real unbiased review but there are so many various car related opinions/reviews that make me question if $$$$ was the factor for the positive review because it's all about marketing and sales.

Personally, I purchased based on previous experience with PS2s, reviews in this and other forums, and friends -- not a magazine review. I also had good experience with Sumitomo HTR Z III when I had my XKR, but I preferred the michelins

I always wonder about initial comparisons between new tires and the previous set, as the previous set has likely seen many miles or is at the end of its life. I think there may be some who have changed to the new tires within 1k of wear. I would pay closer attention to those experiences.

After 21,000 miles on the MPSS, I switched to Pilot Sport 4S yesterday. (Had maybe 4.5/32" left in front, a bit more on the rears.)

I did discover a good use for rain/snow mode: roads were damp and greasy, tires were slick with the mold release compound, so used rain/snow for the drive home. Careful driving works too.

Well today I finally got rid of the Pirellis and got the Michelin 4S. I know you have all mentioned the difference but it was nice to see for myself. Wow night and day. While I never had a chance to get the PSS, the new 4S's are amazing. Planted, grippy even in 50 degree weather and tonight in the rain I never had a moment on the highway or back roads where the rear felt loose.

The sad part of the day was my Lobster Run stickers finally had to come off and I washing the car only to get caught in the rain on the way home from a dinner tonight. That sucked but the tires rock!
