Default Motorized boot/hatch lid already stopped working.

Am I alone here? 2016 R Coupe is but a month old, and to support my nagging fear and prediction, the motorized boot/hatch lid has suddenly stopped working. I hear the motor run, and it'll raise to the 1/3 level alright, but requires a manual lift to fully raise it. Granted it's ridiculously hot and humid today, nearing 98F, but that alone shouldn't be the issue. Only thing I can speculate is the heat has caused an electronic fault or has boiled the hydraulic fluid in the arms. But, that's not likely, as the car was shielded from the sun all day. I was hoping to avoid a service visit, wait, repair, loaner, and inconvenience so early in the ownership stage but I guess after all it's still a Jaguar. :/

The vehicle allows you to set the height the trunk will raise to account for a low garage ceiling. I think its possible you accidentally set the height to that level, and now the trunk only opens 1/3rd of the way.

Well, that's interesting. I'll research the manual. Not sure how I could have done that using only the open/close dash button but I'll give that some consideration.

The problem started though by only closing to the lower 1/3 point. Then it became a raising issue. All in about 10 minutes.

Which make it sounds like you set it to that height.

From merely pushing the button on the dash and/or the button under the boot lid? Seems unlikely something I've done 100 times now would spontaneously reprogram the boot lid, but stranger things have happened.

I tried to find out if the 2015 had this set height function, but was not successfull. Then I found out that my garage was high enough, so I stopped trying to figure it out....

I did try out the "push and hold" the open/close button when desired height was reached (that was the prosedure on my previous Touareg), but that did not do it.

Not new, I've done this for my MY2015.
Don't have access to my manual at the moment, but I believe you raise the hatch to the desired height, then press and hold the button on the hatch for 5-10 seconds. There may even be a beep to confirm the setting.

Don't know if the dash button, or key fob button does the same thing.

Yup, press and hold the button for 10 seconds at least and the height will be set. Worked on my MY15.

If holding the button down programs the height, that would certainly explain how the OP could have inadvertently programmed it to an unsuitable height.

Looks like I have to try again.

Maybe I need to press and hold for a bit longer than what I did?

I was referring to the "close boot" button in the boot and not the button on the dash. I don't think you can program it using the dash button.

Could also be different functionality for US vs. Europe.

Who knows how or why it happened? I still believe it was spontaneous. But, thank you, Stohlen. Your immediate comment last night prompted me to search for instructional videos, which I found on the Jaguar website. I've reprogrammed the boot lid to open to the full height (factory setting), and that seems to have worked.
