Default MY2018+ Still Missing Those CD's?

Much to my disappointment, JLR decided to discontinue CD players in F-Types beginning in 2018. Not sure about you, but I have invested a lot in CD's over the years and I would like to continue listening to them in my SVR. But fear not! A solution has been found! A small CD player (5.5"x5.5") that has the software to interface with the JLR head unit which (after the CD info downloads) will let you operate the player using the Infotainment touchscreen. You want to get the Version #2 for JLR applications.

Amazon Amazon

Works exactly as advertised...

Nice. I rip my CDs to a short USB flash drive, and also copy them to my iPhone. So either the iPhone is plugged in or the USB stick is (only 1 USB in my car.) My 380W system is lousy, but it does have the feature of ripping 10 CDs to internal storage, so I always have those available too. The audio is poor enough I don't worry about loss of fidelity.

Years ago I backed up all 225+ CD's I own to an external hard drive and also have them on a USB drive the size of my thumbnail. Crazy thing that technology. Just think, some generations will never know the joy of flipping through a large binder of CD's that was left in the front seat in the hot sun and then having them stolen from their car!

FeralSVR, does your model year have USB port inputs ? $270 is a lot to spend on a CD player and where would you put it given the F Type's rather limited cabin space ? When I owned a Nissan 370Z the 6 disc changer failed after about 8 years of ownership. I bought a Pyle Model PDAP18BK solid state drive music player that was about the size of a pack of cigarettes and plugged into a 3.5mm mini jack in the console. I downloaded a bunch of CD's onto it and it worked OK but I had to use look at it while driving to select the tracks and operate the other features. Not the safest thing to do.
You may still be able to find a device like that to use for a reasonable cost. If you have USB inputs you can burn files from the CD drive in your computer and load them onto USB sticks. I have several 16gb USB sticks in both of my cars and they hold a LOT of songs on each one and only cost a few bucks each.

Hey Dwight,

You're right about the price. I got mine when they first came out with them and I paid a little over $100.00 for mine. I was surprised how well it worked with the head unit. They really nailed the software. The little unit sits nicely under my seat and is secured with Velcro so it's easily removeable. The USB cord runs behind the seat and into the console box. Yes, in today's world you have all sorts of ways to record and listen to CD's. For an old guy like me, I'm satisfied with just having a CD player - kind of like my Gerrard turntable...

Have a great one!

At least CD's are easy to label so you can pick what you want quickly. I used to have a half a dozen USBs rattling around in the cubby, I'd have to put them in one by one to find the one I wanted.

Feh. I ripped my 750+ CD collection to MP3 years ago and never looked back. I've got a 128GB flash drive in the USB slot and I have 14,000+ songs on it. I wouldn't have enough room to carry that many CDs at once.

I used the colored USB sticks to help identify which artists are on them in alphabetical order. For example Allman Brothers through David Bowie are on a white USB, Deep Purple through Jefferson Airplane are on a blue one and so forth. (You can tell I'm an old guy from my music selection).
These are rather inexpensive and work well:

I don't use the lanyards and pull the swiveling protector off.

I tried a 64gb USB stick and for some reason my computer won't allow me to format it in FAT32 first before downloading the songs onto it, therefore the Jaguar sound system won't read it. So I have been using 16gb sticks. When just burning the songs I like from each artist in a "Greatest Hits" folder, I find that a couple hundred tracks will fit on each one depending upon the song length of course. 4 or 5 USB sticks in the console compartment if plenty of music for me.

The only issue with ripping all that music to a thumb drive?

The liner notes are hard to read...they are so darn small!

(Just kidding of course)

Windows, by a OS limitation, won't allow FAT32 partitions larger than 32GB even though FAT32 natively supports up to 8TB. However, just Google "FAT32 format freeware" and you'll find dozens of free apps that will allow you to go around Microsoft's arbitrary limitation. Like I said in my previous post, I've got a 128GB flash drive (formatted to FAT32) with ~14,000 songs on it. Only downside is the head unit can be sluggish for the first minute using it as it creates an numbered index of all the songs (so when you shuffle it just plays through the shuffled index) so it can be a but unresponsive if you try selecting a song right away. Give it a minute and then it works flawlessly. I love having my entire music library at my disposal.

Ha. Try taking over 300 cassettes that you then transferred to writable CDs and now would need to put on a flash drive………not that I ended up doing this…..

All my music is on my phone.
I just ask Siri to play a song/album/ playlist.
