Default New Owner Questions

Hi Everyone. I was able to pickup a 2017 F-Type S British Design Edition yesterday and have a few questions from my ride home.

1. When I change the color of the ambient lighting, the buttons on the dash and steering wheel don't change color, is that normal?
2. Do all S cars have mirrors that fold in when locked? Mind don't fold in and there doesn't seem to be a button / option anywhere for changing their settings.
3. Does the stereo system only have 6 presets for Sirius? The steering wheel buttons only seem to allow you to move back and forth between 6 favorites.
4. It has adaptive headlights. I've seen them move left and right, but do they move up and down with hills? These lights are pointed down at the ground and are so low that I feel it's dangerous at night. Either they need adjusted up and don't move up and down, or the motors are stuck in the down position. I get about 1 car length of light in front of the car. They are terrible.

Thanks!

1. Yes
2. As far as I know, yes. I read somewhere dealer can change it via inaccessible setting. There is also a manual way to trigger folding - I think it is by pressing both left and right mirror buttons or some such, but I never tried it myself.
3. No idea, never bothered with Sirius as I disagree with monthly fees for radio.
4. I don't think this is normal. I never felt that lights were inadequate on my car.

Thanks for the help. So the button lights are always blue it seems and can't be changed?

The headlights on this car are dangerous. I found a post where someone included a picture of the adjustment screws. I'll probably mess around with those because I don't even want to drive this thing at night. There could be a deer in the road and I wouldn't see it until I was a car length away and that is not an exaggeration.

Bad xenon headlight alignment seems to be a pretty common thing with Jags of this era. My F-Type has the LEDs and has no such issues but both my previous XFs had xenons that I needed to adjust which was easily done. Never understood why the cars came with the lights set up to point that low.

There are Sat 1, 2 and 3 buttons for a total of 18 Sirius presets.

Yep, it is well documented that many F-Types left the factory with headlights pointing way low.
Just use the 6 mm hex adjusters to wind them up a bit.

Thanks, I found it. Although it appears as though you have to go into Satellite and then switch to SAT 2 and then you can scroll through those 6 stations using the steering wheel buttons. It doesn't look like you can scroll through all 18 without switching from SAT 1 to SAT 2 to SAT 3.

I found them and was able to adjust them last night. Much, much better. Thank you.

Is there an OEM car cover for this thing? I'll probably want to cover it over the winter when it isn't being used.

Car cover can damage the paint if it gets moved by wind. Make sure it is tightly secured/tied down.

It would be parked in the garage so no wind. I was just wondering if Jaguar made one as opposed to going aftermarket.

I have a similar issue: very often, I have to switch on the beams on because I do not see much ahead of me. Glad to hear from the other posts this may be fixable issue.

It was actually very easy. You'll need a 6mm hex key like OzXFR mentioned. This post was very helpful. I parked about 6' from the garage door and used that so I could see what I was adjusting. Once I got them where I thought they should be I took it out for a drive. I might go up a click or so higher, but it's about a million times better. It was just plain dangerous before.

I keep mine covered in the garage too. I ordered a cover from Cover Kings. They make several kinds. Mine is for indoor use only. Kind of a soft satin material. Fits tight and shows the body lines so it still looks pretty good covered.

There is an OEM one, I bought it and didn't like the quality so I returned it. It felt cheap and it was not for indoor use only It wasn't soft. My car is garaged so I wanted a soft one and ordered an aftermarket one made by Coverking for indoor use only. It's satin on the outside and sweatshirt material on the inside.

Sounds like the same one I got. Very soft and fits well.

I’ll take a look at the Coverking, thanks.

I’m getting what I think are soot particles all over the back of the car after driving. Is that normal?

I don’t see it smoking during acceleration or anything.

I do too. I thought it was rubber dust. I'm usually pretty heavy on the skinny pedal. LOL

Kind of sucks that it's dirty about 5 minutes after I wash it.

I wonder if there is a way to keep that from happening without having to light up on the throttle use?

I doubt it. I figure it comes with the soft compound tires we run. But I agree, it does suck. I'll hit mine with compressed air and it seems to blow most of it off.

That's how mine works. Not ideal, but the infotainment system seems to draw much of the criticism on this car, if not the majority of it.
