Opinions on GTA Car Kit VS. CarLinkLife head modules
Hi, thanks to everyone who helped me with the "my screen won't respond to touch" thread, after a couple of wacks on the dashboard it has been working.
Can anyone give me their opinions on GTA Car Kit VS. CarLinkLife head modules or others? This is going in a 2014 F-type convertible Bosch. Some options I have seen seem to exclude the 2014. I am also going to add a rear camera as there isn't one.
GTA $549.99 https://www.gtacarkits.com/product/w...ype-2014-2017/
Carlinklife $329.99 https://carlinklife.com/products/wir...oring-decorder
Camera recommended by forum $16.99
Installation difficulty seems to be about the same. Looks like the hardest part is how to wire the camera. Solar powered wireless is another option.
Thank you.

I went through 2 of the carlinklife type devices and never got it working well. In the end I paid about twice the price and went with the android screen replacement. Everything works well and like OEM ,(minus an exterior mic).
I can understand not wanting to blow twice the money, but is really has been a much more enjoyable experience.
Finally a big reason not to go with those piggyback type units is they all (as far as I'm aware) compromise your dynamic car settings. You will not be able to adjust individual values anymore.
Any questions about the android unit just ask, I bought the one linked by above poster.
I am going to contact them too to see if they have something for 2019+ or if the 2016-2018 Harman system will still work. I am not clear about this and many of the AliExpress sellers have no clue.
I’ll be interested to see how that fits. I guess the current screen with all the physical buttons comes out, and it must have some kind of replacement bezel?
I purchased the Carlink life kit last year for my 2016 (build date June 2015) , works perfectly including the steering wheel volume and track functions. They did send me the wrong unit initially but sent the correct one with no stress. It was a lot cheaper than the GTA kit and GTA told me the steering wheel track functions would not work.

I already have it installed, but short answer is you're correct.

I have a UAD unit and they only thing it compromises is the Factory Nav system. All other features, including the Dynamic settings, are untouched and work perfectly. The car starts up with the factory infotainment and then switches to Android Auto when I hit the nav button.

Sounds like it's one of the rare one's then. That's good!
This unit replaces the bezel completely. The side buttons are on screen now. I have had this unit installed 5 months and there has been zero issues with it. All OEM functions still work and it has a very robust EQ to play with to. My install was much easier than the vids above. All i had to do was install the original OEM PC board into the new unit and install it. Took about 30 minutes.
@Evoex Can you please post the link for the unit that you installed in your car? Would this work with a 2018 with the side buttons? And does it have Apple Carplay functionality as well?

Well yes/no. It will work with your setup but it will replace the hard side buttons with on screen buttons, scroll up a few posts i posted a pic of mine installed.
Yes apple carplay/android auto wireless connection.
Hi all, i am having a hard time with the install. the cable that goes to the head will not click in. The original cable plugs into the harness and the harness plugs into itself. Any thoughts on how I can make this work?
@mikerino I would contact the 4x4 support number - they may have seen this before and have some tips.
Is it the right size but just won't click in? You may have to externally activate the clip with a small flathead screwdriver while pushing it in hard. Get a helper so you have more hands.
Thanks for the reply, I have been emailing support, they told me to "lift up the clips from the plug and re-insert it to the factory radio" not sure what that means. Yes the plug is the right size, goes into the head just will not go all of the way. I did as you suggested and pushed down on the clip with a screwdriver.
