Opinions on GTA Car Kit VS. CarLinkLife head modules
Hey thanks for the help. Got it. Now on to "how in the world do I hook up the backup camera. Do I just give it power and the system activates it or do I need to tie it into the backup lights?
Just plug in the camera first before installing to test it out - if power comes on, etc, put it in Reverse and see what happens. Test everything before final install.
If you do have to tap the rear backup light positive wire, it's not too bad. Use a posi-tap so you don't have to splice and can remove it quickly. Any instructions included?

For those who have it working I'd love to understand any limitations? Seems like pretty much every system has some isssues. Eg sounds like the steering wheel buttons still work on android auto. But do they work (track skip, volume etc) on CarPlay too? Any other features lost?
Did anyone get the external mic - if so, where does it install and how is sound quality?
And does factory reverse camera still just pop up? Anyone added a front parking camera too?

Mic is meh. But i don't take calls in my car anyways so it's a non factor to me.
Factory backup camera works fine, screen changes then goes away when out of reverse.

With the aftermarket camera it pops up when you put the car in reverse and has guidance lines. No need to tap the reverse light during the install. I have the external mic but haven't made any calls yet, Siri seems to understand me. The steering wheel controls for volume and mode work, the next song does not for me in carplay. I could have sworn that at one point while clicking around I saw a "learn steering wheel controls" section but I haven't been able to find it again. I am really happy with the system, partly because my OEM touchscreen would stop working sometimes, bang on the dash and it would start working again. Now all good.
I asked support if there was a manual, they didn't say yes or no, just answered my questions.

@mikerino I wouldn't bother with those.
Why not get a beautiful new screen plus many options including camera, OBD2 adapter, USB input, even a dash cam, like this:

This unit has been used by several forum members with success. They give you full instructions on the install.
Running Torque Pro on Android at all times with coolant temperature alerts will save your engine if an overheating situation arises.
iOS does not have an app that can do that last time we checked.

@mvining You would use the Sirius app for Android which IMHO has much better audio quality than the compressed satellite signal, which sounds like AM radio to me.
I believe the app gets all the channels and the subscription is less too.

For anyone with the GTA car kit unit in an F-Type. I'm installing one in my 2017 SVR with the Bosch system. Installed and testing - CarPlay activates and I can play music or have it read texts etc - but the sound comes from my iPhone, not the car speakers. I've set the car to "Aux" as it says in the installation video but nothing comes through car speakers (they work fine if I change source to the Jag FM radio)
I do get sound if I pair my iPhone via BT to the car, but is that the right way to do it? And if I do that, audio music plays at a good level but voice talking (eg reading a text, driving directions) are way too quiet. If I crank them up, then when the music restarts it's crazy loud..
Am I missing something? Should it work on aux or do I need to run both wireless CarPlay and Bluetooth for the audio?

@JagCode3 @Evoex @mikerino I'm also installing the INAV android replacement from 4x4 kit. But after the install I'm getting an error on the Parking Assist module where the front and rear sensors aren't working anymore and also don't get a beeping tone as I reverse close to the wall. Did anyone experience this type of issue where parking assist / sensors don't work anymore?
By error, do you mean a CEL or just no sound? I don't own one of these but the parking sensor alerts are meant to override any other sounds coming from the head unit. The INAV must be filtering these out somehow.

Thanks all for the input. Resolved with some help from GTA
Since they made the video they have changed how sound gets to the F Type and it no longer uses aux
Instead you now link the iPhone on wireless CarPlay to the gta unit (you can plug it in via usb if you prefer too). And you also have to pair the iPhone to the Jag oem Bluetooth. The gta unit works with the phone to run CarPlay, display on the screen etc. and Bluetooth gets sounds from the phone to the car (Waze / Spotify / Siri / phone calls etc)
The volume issue took a bit longer to work out. Siri seems to have a fixed volume that it transmits at and it was too quiet so I had to turn down the phone volume level a bit and turn up the jag system. Now they are both loud
Will report back after some use. Installation was straightforward. So far it works really well.

Quick update after a few hundred miles of driving this weekend. So far v positive on the GTA unit. CarPlay works perfectly, system startup is a lot quicker than previously. No issues with any of the car controls (I've not tried custom dynamic mode but assume that doesn't work as others have said - but I never use that anyway..)
Track forward / backward works with the steering wheel controls (mine is the GTA unit and iPhone), as does volume
I was worried that the screen would be too small on the oem 8inch but actually it's just fine.
Two interesting observations. I've had terrible issues with making calls since I got the car on Bluetooth hands free - the other person can't hear me clearly at all (I could hear them fine). I always thought the mic was faulty. But - GTA kit uses the same oem mic and it's v clear now. So must have been an issue with signal processing
Second observation - I used to do Spotify via Bluetooth to the car system. Now I'm still Bluetooth to the audio system but Spotify is running in CarPlay. The sound is much better - I used to get terrible reverb and rattling of the speakers / cabin interior. Now bass still sounds excellent but I don't get that distortion any more
So - overall a bit hit and I wish I did it years ago.
Happy to answer any questions and will post back if I learn anything more
For info mine is a 2017 SVR with the Bosch system.
