Just noticed this on my new to me, 12 month old car. I can't say for sure it didn't get a knock in the previous ownership but it is in an unlikely place and on the edge of a panel which leaves me suspecting it might be a paint issue. Anyone else had a problem like this and what do you think. It is on the lower panel in the gap between it and the main side body panel justo in front of the rear wheel.
Hi - numerous individuals have been reporting flaking paint issues. Do three things; raise it to the dealer, ask them to ensure its uploaded as an issue to the tech system as otherwise JLR don't do anything and also ring the JLR customer service centre.
I will say that this car chips and scratches like no other car I've ever owned. The paint is very delicate.
Welcome to the world of aluminum coachwork. Had the same problem decades ago with the aluminum doors on my '70 280SL. No problem on the rest of the steel bodied car.
I'd rather have paint chips than rust spots.

That looks like wax residue to me. Its as if the detailer did a sloppy job and didn't clean the seams.
Hard to tell from the pic, but if that's NOT polish in that gap, it looks like either the panels are rubbing together which caused the paint wear and ultimately the chip ; or that rocker panel was replaced and during the paint process they missed that portion of the top edge of the rocker. The paint on the quarter then possibly got chipped during the re-install.
If it IS polish in the gap, clear it out, hit the chip with a little touch up paint, buff it down and you will be fine. Otherwise, you would have get the rocker taken off and re-sprayed and the chip touched up.

I had the same issue in the same location on my car. This is a known issue and there is a TSB on it with a 10-step fix that your dealer should be aware of. Later builds have a foam strip that is inserted between the rocker panel and the body to prevent rubbing between the plastic and aluminum body parts which causes the paint to flake off.
The fix is not to just touch up the chip. The rocker panel needs to be removed and the entire panel repainted along with re-aligning the door. I had my rocker panel repainted 3 times before they got it right...

I found this right away a week after I took delivery. They told me I could have the panels replaced if I wanted. It is caused by the "torching" of the body of the car. They said they needed to get new panels from the factory. They would be "foamed" to reduce the torque, and then be painted locally.
Well, I have held off because I don't want about 15% of the car repainted. Then I have factory paint and local re paint. Just don't want it.
I'm living with it (same spot as yours and BOTH sides).
I have the same issue, but it isn't bad enough for me to care about it. The dealer said if I wanted them to fix it, I should do it at the end of the season as they'd have it for a few weeks. (I store mine over the winter.)
I have Stratus with same known issue on one side. Dealer is willing to fix but I only want to do this once so I'm waiting to see if it gets worse or occurs on other side.
Thanks everyone, sorry the pic is not great, it is definitely not polish, that was my first thought, but my attempts to rub it off removed some more paint.
Great to know that there is a TSb on it as that helps a lot in the arguments with the dealer. Thanks everyone for your replies, seems it is a common and known problem.
The Edmunds website is very interesting... when you plug in other new, popular car makes & models vs the F Type... the issues with the F Type are relatively low and insignificant in comparison.

I'm not entirely sure if that's good or bad, but I'd like to think it's the former. On potential negative side, it could also indicate a hesitancy to communicate reported problems and fixes.
