Smile Power steering loss & special modes unavailable

I have a 2014 F-Type v8s which recently developed a problem where the power steering would go out and you get kicked out of dynamic mode. The screen would say special modes unavailable. Restarting the car fixed it briefly but problem comes back. I searched the forums and found two cases where one guy replaced a wire harness and computer only to lemon the car. another case I searched a guy replaced a wire harness near the gear selector. Are there any technicians here want to help out a fellow man and offer more specifics on a permanent fix, with part numbers on the wire harness and computer?

Welcome to the forum. The first thing to try is to charge the battery. Any idea if your car still has the original battery? These cars are very sensitive to battery voltage, so that’s an easy thing to try first.

And if that doesn't fix it, it could be a corroded earting point somewhere.

So in my model year, there are two batteries. the main battery, and secondary smaller motorcycle side for auto/start stop. I replaced both of them and they test out fine on my multimeter, 12.9v when fully charged on my schumacher dsr charger. I haven't checked the earth points yet for corrosion, what are some of the locations of those points?

I think some folk have found the one in the front right wheel well to be prone to corrosion. Not sure of any others.

@cambit How many miles?

Are there any fault codes associated with your issue? (I'm sure you would need an advanced reader, or a dealer/shop that has one)

97,000 miles
I hooked up an Autel scanner and found the following codes:

U2101-00 control module configuration incompatible
U0422-68 Invalid data received from the body control module
B12FB-12 and B12FB-1F Power steering solenoid control B
U0121-00 - Lost communication with ABS control module
U0294-00 Lost communication with the powertrain control monitor module
B13C2-86 windshield misting sensor
B13C2-96 windshield misting sensor

Those 'incompatible' and 'invalid data' codes are concerning.

The 'power steering control solenoid' codes could be a clue.

+++++++++++

If resetting the battery and changing it with a fully charged one doesn't help, look into those modules. You haven't possibly had a control module meant for the later electric assist cars installed by accident?

nope, all the modules in there currently are original from the factory. is there a central module that connects the various modules (abs, power steering, body control)? figured Id change that first.

Can't find it right now,

But didn't someone reset an electrical gremlin by disconnecting and reconnecting some of the connectors up under the passenger side of the dash?

interesting. I know there is a body module with a bunch of fuses under the passenger floor. I'll give it a shot!

It reads our car is still awake after turning off and it's draining the battery. After shutting off the car, lock your doors and watch to se if the hazard triangle goes off after a few minutes. If it doesn't, then your car is awake and draining battery.
I had the same issues for about a month. Turned out that my aftermarket steering wheel (that was installed without a relay to turn it off when the car is off) was draining the battery. Once that was resolved, my red triangle now turns off after locking the car, I no longer get these messages.

Did you ever resolve this issue? I have the exact same issue with the same codes.

Mine did this when I forgot to hook up the sensor on the steering rack... lots of great recommendations to check first but if you can get under the car and check that 2 wire harness and connector it couldn't hurt.

Fancy seeing you here, I'm a huge fan of your youtube videos!
That's definitely a possibility since the car recently had a lot of work done to it, I'll check that out.
Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm the original poster, here's the fix. There's a service bulletin for this problem, JTB00517NAS1 basically replaced a ground link cable. if that doesn't fix then you have to replace the entire central junction box (CJB) which is very expensive. luckily I only needed a new cable, which was cheap. so if you're losing power steering and can't keep dynamic mode, this is the resolution.
