Problems with onboard computer and unlocking
Hi guys,
I'm noticing 2 problems on my Jaguar F-type S 2014, which I don't know if they're standard or if it's more of a bug - and if so, I'd be happy if you could point me in the right direction.
1) Onboard computer
The car displays information such as average speed, average consumption, etc. But whenever I turn off the ignition, even for 5 seconds, all data is immediately reset to zero, regardless of the length of the previous drive. This behavior does not seem normal to me, the average consumption should be calculated in the long term..
2) Unlocking
I know that the car has "double" locking. But is double unlocking normal? No matter if I locked the car 1x or 2x, if I want to unlock the passenger door (so that the handle comes out) or the trunk, I have to press the unlock button 2x..
3) And one extra "bonus" question.
Is it possible to exchange instrument cluster from 2014 for MK1 facelift from say 2018 without problems (only with coding)? They have a slightly different design, but above all the display shows more information. I know that changing the instrument cluster for the MK2 facelift virtual cockpit is not possible, but is it possible to change the ones from, say, 2018 as plug&play?
Thank you for any help

1) There are three settings for the computer: A, B and "Trip". A and B are cumulative, whereas the Trip setting behaves exactly as you've found, and records the details for a trip. You can select which of the three is displayed through the steering wheel menu buttons. I use A for total mileage and B for tank to tank. You reset them by pressing and holdng the end of the left stalk.
2) There's an option to unlock either just the driver's door, or both - this is a security feature to prevent an undesirable from sneaking in through the passenger door when you unlock the car. This can be changed through the Vehicle Settings menu via the steering wheel buttons.
2) Sorry, can't help with this one!

Stickler,
I can only partially answer some of this. Double unlocking is common on many model cars. My F-type and Q70 require the fob to be pressed twice for the passenger door to unlock but only once for everything to lock when in the open position (doors, mirrors etc).
If the battery is disconnected in my F-type all data such as date/time is lost but not sure about consumption etc. regardless data is not lost by just cutting the car off. You may have a memory/communication issue. Personally, that issue would not be a major concern.
Average speed: very fast
Average gas milage: terrible
Not speaking about all Jaguars but will make some statements about my car. The car can be strange at times. There are mornings where I walk into the garage press the fob to unlock, sit down to put on my shoes for work and before I can stand up the car will lock on its own.
There are times where I have to unlock the car twice for the side mirrors to open. If the battery is disconnected the car reverts back to Feb 2014 (date/time) however the seats and windows, and radio have never needed to be reset. Many members on this forum have had to reset these items due to battery disconnect.
Jaguar vehicles, like the feline name they are derived from can be finicky in nature.

SCM,
I agree if it was consistent, sometimes it will lock within a minute or so other times not just like the mirrors. Sometimes they will fold in with a single press of the fob and sometimes a second or third. The car seems to have a personality and we mostly get along.

The trip computer on my 2021 F Type has a gremlin. The average speed rarely shows above about 45 MPH. I have even reset it about a block before I got on the freeway and made a 60 mile trip at speeds between 70 and 80 MPH. I just chalk it up to English electronics.
As others have mentioned, the single or double unlock can be selected in the settings menu. I have mine set for double. It's a good security feature. And I found out about the auto-relock shortly after buying the car. I guess it is another security feature

If you're getting inconsistent behaviour I'd check the status of your batteries (car and fobs). These cars, like most similar high end performance cars, are finicky about voltages and can exhibit gremlins if they don't get enough.
You'll probably find those "English" electronics are made somewhere in Europe or the far east, like most European cars these days. The Lord of Darkness died many years ago.
Haha SCM I'll bet you are right ! I owned a 1966 Triumph 500 Trophy when I was in high school with the dreaded Lucas electronics. In addition to those gremlins I always had to park it over a sheet of cardboard to catch all the oil drips and tighten all the nuts and bolts that had vibrated loose every couple times I rode it. But god it was fun !
I'm sure glad that modern cars are so much more reliable than vehicles of the past.

so I looked today and seriously found it in that setting! Thank you very much, everything's now working correctly.

Otherwise maybe the difference between setting the on-board computer to A and B? I have an A now.
The A and B values accumulate regardless of which you're displaying, until you reset them. As said earlier, I leave A to keep my overall stats and use B to monitor my tank to tank fuel consumption, which I reset after each fill up.
