I found that neither of my cars would program with the instructions in the handbook, had to fudge it a bit.

Thanks for sharing,, on my 2011 XJL I've tried "everything" in the manual to get it to work no luck and will not sync up, I cant get that fast flashing light. I have a year old house with a brand new Liftermaster do you think this would still need that same repeater you posted?.. I had an 08 cadillac CTS that I needed one of those things too so at least I'm familiar.. Is there a number I can call that you can recommend just to be sure that I actually need one??? TY

I had to install a bridge to get my cars to work with my Liftmaster, once it they connected fine. You might try calling Liftmaster, they used to have decent support (haven't called them in years though).

Liftmaster is the brand I went for that needed the bridge. Found it on Amazon for much less than from liftmaster.

Default Late update - a little more detail on method that worked for me

After setting up with both, mine works flawlessly now.
For whatever reason, my button stopped working. I have a newer Chamberlain Wifi remote (nothing fancy, rolling codes). MIC knockoff remotes would not work on the car, nor on my detached garage (3rd button). I took the original Chamberlain remote, programmed the car with it*, but the car would not open the Chamberlain. I noted that the Jag 'thought' it had learned something by the several second rapid blinking after programming.

Seeing this post, I then put the Jag in the garage right next to the garage door actuator and attempted to teach the garage actuator to learn the newly programmed Jag rolling code. On the first attempt, the Chamberlain responded with the blinking lights (indicating it learned the new device) - but it would not actuate. I tried a 2nd time (learn button on Chamberlain, then simply press and hold the Jag button) - the Chamberlain again blinked the lights. Releasing the Jag button and pressing it again - voila - the garage door opened.

*Note - I followed the (poorly written) step for 'reprogramming a previously programmed button on the mirror. The way it actually works for a button previously programmed is you push and hold the mirror button for 20 seconds or so to where it blinks slowly. DO NOT RELEASE the mirror button at any time until done. When it starts blinking slowly (while still holding the mirror button), you then push and hold the button on the remote that you're using to 'teach' the JAG the rolling code. You can't press the mirror button 3 times, because it then then aborts the procedure. Furthermore, when you 'go and continue on step 2' - don't release the button on the mirror (as I just said).

A bit of a pain, but at least it works on a real Chamberlain/Liftmaster remote. In summary - teach the car the code of the remote control. THEN, using the garage door actuator's learn button, have the Jag right under it and press the just taught Jag button after you've told the garage door opener to go to learn mode.

My newer chamberlin would not synch so I called chamberlin and they checked my vin and they confirmed it wouldn't work, they knew the problem but couldn't explain it. They sent me a bridge device to solve the problem but I got used to using the remote and never installed it.

I found the manual either poorly worded or flat-out wrong. I eventually got all my buttons programmed, but it took a while. But that was nearly 12 years ago!
