Default Question - AWD Front/Rear Tire Wear

I just bought a 2016 F-Type R. The rear tires have very low tread (past the wear indicators). The fronts are reasonably new (OEM Pirelli's). I've read loads of threads about tires and would like to replace the Pirelli's, but I'm struggling with getting rid of the reasonably new tires on the front and basically throwing them away. I am the type of person who uses every last dollop of my toothpaste. I'm thinking that even though I'd rather have other tires, I should suck it up and get replacement Pirelli's for the rear. If the rears wear out quicker than the fronts, I might get lucky and have all 4 tires wear out about the same time for the next go around. Do your rears wear faster than your fronts?

On a related note, I've read threads regarding the different Pirelli's designed for different brands (i.e. the little circled "J" versus Tirerack's "Blackwall") on the tire. I'd be much more inclined to get a cheaper variant of the same Pirelli tire (i.e. a different circled letter or no letter at all) than get mismatched brands/models of tires for the rear and front. Your thoughts?

One last thought. I've noticed that Tirerack's prices correlate with age, much more so than the little circled letter. They currently have 2016 models and 2017 models noticeably cheaper than "brand new" tires (whatever that means). I've read a few articles that give opinions on age. If you expect to use the tires within a couple of years, would a 2016/2017 model tire concern you?

If I were you I would simply get a pair of rear MPS4S and leave the P-Zeros on the front, until all four need replacing.
Despite being AWD the rears still do most of the work especially traction wise.
IMHO having P-Zeros on the front and MPS4S on the rear is far superior to P-Zeros all round, but not as good as MPS4S all round.

The AWD system is rear biased! I would not recommend going with two sets of different tires. Replace all four tires or buy OEM Pirelli tires for the rear. Enjoy!

I had exactly the same dilemma last month - Pirelli rears worn out on a V6 AWD and fronts ok. I decided to fit Michelin MP4S all round even though it pained to to ditch perfectly good fronts. Yes, any new tyres will feel better than worn Pirellis, but the difference is very noticeable. The front is far more 'pointy' and responsive, and the overall feel with Michelins is a more confident and enjoyable drive. Just do it.

Don't ditch your old front tyres!!!

Head over to the XF forums and sell them part worn to them, they fit perfectly....sssshhhh, I had nothing to do with it ;-)

I'm sure I'll get flack for this, but I just ordered 4 Firestone Indy 500s. It's hard to ignore the reviews.
