Rear center console sticky button replacement
I'd like to replace the latch button on the rear vertical storage compartment but can't seem to find a way to remove the console trim. I have a 14 V8s cont. Any videos or diagrams available?
No need to remove any of the trim to remove the sticky button issue. Only need to remove parts if the buttons with the silkscreen is damaged and you want to replace any damaged parts.
I did my whole interior without removal with the exception of bezel around the screen. The trick to doing this is use small amounts and go slow. Once the coating starts to lift it will come off
fairly easy. There are other people who have done this using other products a well.
There is a you tube video showing a guy using dunlop fret board cleaner on a Mercedes steering wheel, I used this method on my whole interior. It takes time but can be done. My car came out of Florida and as Unhinged say this problem is mostly related to model years 14-15 cars and cars in warm climates. some of the cars I have seen were terrible lint stuck to everything terrible looking.
I started to price out replacement parts for my car it was getting well over $1000 never mind having to tear 1/2 the interior apart to do some of the parts.
It all comes down to how comfortable you are doing it yourself, either replacement or cleaning and the time and money aspect of the job for either method.
I think a couple of people got quotes from the dealer to replace the parts and it was well over $2k in some instances.
Items I used
dunlop fret board cleaner
water(to rinse and repeat)
guitar picks as scaper (they are small)
toothpicks (to get into corners and in between area's)
microfiber towels
malco perfect 10 spray when job is complete (detailer's secret seals and protects) will not damage leather.
good luck
