Default Rear e-brake use when tracking care?

Everyone knows that it's a no-no to apply the e-brake when coming in from a lapping session. How does one handle this issue when the F-type automatically applies the brake when putting the car in park?

Think you can change settings so that doesn't happen automatically

From my MY18 manual: "To prevent this automatic operation, when the vehicle is stationary, press and hold the EPB switch in the release position [downwards] prior to selecting P"

Hey Mike, this is the EPB overview from the Service Manual (page 4686) linked in the sticky https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...mation-101906/ .

I intend to look at the training module later, perhaps that has more documentation as to the specifics, because I SWEAR that just putting the car in PARK doesn't apply the brake. (Can't remember from a year ago when I removed my wheels to check brake thickness, whether they were free-spinning or not).

I DO know that I can feel further e-brake actuation when I lift the parking brake switch when parking.

The electric park brake is controlled by the electric park brake control
module. In response to commands from the driver through the
electric park brake switch, the module controls operation of the
electric park brake actuator. The actuator adjusts the clamp load to
apply and release the rear brake calipers.

The EPB has the following operating modes:

Gradient dependant apply.
Ignition off apply.
DAR (drive away release).
Automatic transmission apply/release.
Static apply/release.
High temperature re-clamp.
Driver exit warning.
Dynamic apply.

Signals from other vehicle systems for operation of the EPB are
transmitted to the EPB module on the high speed CAN (controller
area network) bus.

There is nothing about automatic parking brake application on Page 84 of the USA owners handbook. But, on page 73 of the handbook, a possible workaround is mentioned: "If the engine is switched off with N (neutral) selected, the system will wait 10 minutes before selecting P"

HTH.

Stay off the brakes on the cool-down lap!

The EPB will make a sound every time you lift the button even if the brake is already deployed. The EPB is always deployed when the engine is shut down, but as mentioned that can be overridden by depressing the EPB button. (What the AT does to the EPB, I can’t say)

I've merged your two identical threads.

To prevent automatic EPB operation on ignition switch off: press and hold the EPB switch in the release position. Within 5 seconds, switch off the ignition and continue to hold the EPB switch for a further 2 seconds. From my MY18 manual, other MYs may vary ....

It also does high-temperature reclamping. This doc explains all the modes, as of 2014. But my EPB doesn’t automatically apply, so yours is a bit different.

They must have learned that from the E-Type - I recall a story in the 70s of an E-Type owner who came out of his hilltop house one morning to find his car had rolled down the hill after the brakes cooled down.
