Default Spacer Trauma

What have I done wrong? I have a 17mm set of spacers that are supposed to fit over the existing lug bolts without trimming. However there is 15mm of the bolt sticking out beyond the spacer. The threaded part of the original (I assume) lug bolt is 32mm long. Doesn't add up. Any ideas where this endeavor went wrong?

I think there's a thread already about this - you chop off the unthreaded bit and then they're fine, apparently.

I thought the 17mm spacers were supposed to fit without grinding. Otherwise I would have gone for the 15mm ones. But grinding could be the only way to deal with it.

Sorry, I put the wheel back on just before the rain came. When I tried to fit it with the spacer there wasn’t any way it was going on as is.

IT all depends on the indentation in the back of the rims, your rims may fit without cutting, the studs fits into them ,what rims are they , did you try to fit one yet, pics

As I have commented before the only OEM F-Type rims that I know of which fit over the original studs with 15 mm spacers (and obviously even more so with 17 mm spacers) are the Blades (which are 20" only).
The OP has a "base" F-Type so he probably doesn't have Blades and he possibly has 18" rims.
I don't recall anyone here fitting spacers of any size to an F-Type with 18" rims so that might help explain the problem - maybe those 18" rims have very shallow voids, too shallow even for 17 mm spacers.

OK just discovered the problem. The flange on the wheel side of the spacer was not machined properly - it's too wide, preventing the spacer to snug up against the wheel. I tried using lug nuts trying to draw it up flush while it was not bolted onto the car's hub. Still no success, definitely too wide. I'll contact MotorSports on Monday and discuss with Lenny.

Thanks your you attempt to help out, I appreciate it.

Which again raises the question, what type and size are your wheels?
Also, what brand of spacers do you have? Edit - whoops - MotorSports!
If the wheels are 18" it is possible the spacer manufacturer MotorSports didn't design the spacers to work with that size wheel/hub face.

I seem to remember another forum member that had an issue with his Motorsport Tech spacers not having the correct sized wheel centrics (63.4mm).

It's a 19" OEM wheel. These are used pull-off's from a seller, like new. I also tried the spacer on my own 18" take-offs. Neither accepted the spacer. Here's a picture of the wheel. Don't know what it's called.

It was me. I'm not sure who's running the machines there, but they're not doing a good job. Customer service is hit or miss as well. I don't know that I'll be a return customer moving forward.

+1. In the future, l’ll be sourcing all my adaptors and spacers from SCC. Good prices and consistently good quality. Oft times, available on Fleabay.

When it comes to spacers, only brand I would trust is H&R.

Any ISO certified fabricator is good enough for me. QC seems to have fallen down at motorsport tech.

Buy your spacers of H&R best on market and as the saying goes "It does exactly what it says on the tin"
