Starting Issue
Hello guys,
I am looking for some help with a starting issue I'm having. I have posted the same on ftype forum but there seems to be more activity here so maybe someone will be able to help.
Car is F Type SVR 2018 (UK).
Initially, the car would not crank and there was only a click on starting. Got underneath the car and gave the starter a tap whilst my partner pressed the start button and it fired into life.
So booked in for a starter replacement. New starter fitted to car, now the mechanic is saying the engine cranks fine but it doesn’t actually fire up.
This is odd because the engine was working fine previously, I drove it to the workshop.
He has tested for a spark and apparently there’s no spark. But there’s also no codes stored.
He has sent me a video and it seems like when the cranking is manually stopped with the button, the car splutters a bit as if it’s only getting ignition when the starter motor stops getting power.
We have tried boosting the battery and jumping but still the same issue.
Any ideas/thoughts are welcome. Thank you!

Is it similar to this? My 2015 R RWD would fail to start as well. Turned out to be a loose ground strap on the chassis. Video in the link below:

No. The engine cranks but there is no spark now.
Initially, the problem was similar, but we confirmed that the starter motor was faulty. After replacement, now the engine won’t start but will crank.

As sports engineer mentioned, confirm your primary grounds on the car are all clean and secure. There are several on the car. May not be the issue but it is very easy to check. Can cause all sorts of issues - these are complex, computer driven cars, they're not your old Chevy
BTW these do not have the traditional "starter relay" either. Also how old is your battery? If it is more than 5-6 years old, replace it.

Update on this one. The starter that was used originally was bought via eBay, it was a denso starter with part number T2H3246
I found this from https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/
The starter motor that came off the car had part number: GX73-11001-EC
The denso and the one that came off the car looked completely identical. Same number of teeth and kw rating etc.
I decided to source a second hand starter with the exact part number that came off the car.
After this one was fitted, car started no problem. So I’m not sure why, but the denso did not work, and it was a brand new part.
