Telematics Control Unit (TCU) Battery Replacement How-To
I am having "sleep mode" show in the In Control App. I replaced the battery a few years ago and cannot see that being the issue again. I have reset the app, deleted the app and reinstalled and attempted to reconnect the SOS with button and still stuck in sleep mode. Hate to buy another battery as it cost more than the annual access to the app and felt like I just changed it out.
I found on this forum a possible cure:

For the last week I have not been able to start my F-PACE (2019) using the Jaguar Remote (v2.10.1) app. In fact, none of my journeys are being logged and the app no longer seesm to be communicating with the car. If I tap on Remote in the app, I get a message that says: VEHICLE ASLEEP Vehicle is currently in low power mode due to inactivity. Manual vehicle start will restore remote features. We'll, I've started the car manually numerous times and the issue persists. Vehicle has not been idle for more than a day. I don’t seem to have any power warnings on the panel. Any idea what this could be?
I had the same issues, and I fixed them from the help of another site ... This is the second time my app said the car was driving and aftrr a few days said the car was asleep and driving at the same time... How I fixed the problem.. I started the car and held the service button in the upper console until it went from faster flashing amber to slower flashing amber (about 10 seconds) then turned off the vehicle.. I opened the trunk, and on the right hand side opened the fuse panel cover.. there is a red 10 amp fuse (fuse #20) that on the panel index looked like a window lock image.. I pulled out the fuse and walked away for 15 minutes.. this allows the telematics internal battery to deplete.. I cleaned some waxy residue off the fuse and reinstalled.. I checked my app after a few minutes and it works again!!!

I am having this same issue and am going to try the fuse 20 removal.

Still trying to figure out why, with a fresh and working battery and system, the 2017s Remote and Protect decided not to update itself. The car shows a location where I was in December, despite being driven just this week. Remote app also says its 'in use' and now, it's 'asleep'. I have checked the app version and logged in and out several times. Well, it's tech and we all know how THAT is. As part of a reset/reboot process, it was suggested that beside the overhead SOS button in the cabin, that the fuse be pulled for a short period of time and then replaced.
I consider myself a good researcher, yet I cannot find the fuse for this Telematics Control Unit. I found numerous sites saying it was in the fuse box in the trunk (I have a coupe). I looked up numerous sources of what fuses are in that trunk box and none of them list a TCU. I then went through all the remaining fuse box locations for this F and contents and still did not find a fuse for the TCU.
According to the TOPIX printout for this car, it was built sometime in early or mid 2016. It exhibits some transitional features, like not having an SD card for Nav update common to MY2017s.

Valerie, try this procedure outside your garage.
If it doesn't work then I would remove the battery, test it and put it back in. Do you still have your old JLR battery?
More work for you - but something is preventing the TCU from communicating with the Jaguar call center. I wonder if it has something to do with older 2G/3G networks becoming obsolete:

Thank you for the video, but the only thing I need to do is repeat the LEFT side/Wrench button reset outside my garage. I never got an SOS limited functionality message, just replaced the TCU battery proactively. Everything worked with the new battery.. app knew where the car was, where I was, I could lock/unlock/ sound horn etc,WITHOUT ever doing the reset procedure. It was that way from August through December,2025. Then in December, the car's location froze. I have only this week tried the reset, but not outside.
Yes, I have the old/original jaguar TCU battery. Got it out and tested it.. comes up at 3.7V on a 4.0V battery. My plan for Sunday is, weather permitting, getting the car out and doing the reset out in the open. If that fails, then put the old battery in, or at least, get the new one out and check its voltage. Interesting to see the different form factor that is being sold for this battery. What I have is 2 sidebyside batteries and it appears that the new ones are one single battery.
I've read in other Jaguar models' forums that this happens with them, and often just comes out of it on its own. Perhaps that will happen here.
The point about the networks may apply, though, and I found this on Consumer Reports:
"Jaguar and Land Rover
Jaguar and Land Rover didn’t respond to CR’s questions, and the automaker’s website doesn’t have any information on the shutdown. CR research shows that the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace and XE; the 2016 and 2017 Jaguar XF and XJ; the 2015 to 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport; the 2017 Land Rover Discovery; and the 2016 and 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover may be affected by the shutdown."
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I'll check with my JLR tech and see what he has to say. If there is a 4/5g TCU now available, I might be inclined.

Good luck with the reset - keep us posted. Based on your symptoms sounds like a 2G network issue.

Still no insight on a TCU fuse for this car, but I'm on to my tech for that one.
Took the car out today.. 55 degrees and sunny here in Wisconsin. Got the car out of the garage, running and did the Wrench Reset. Drove to destination parked. After work, checked car via app from inside. NADA. Still thinks it's in its December location. BAH!!!
I'm not adverse to diving in to the battery compartment again,, but I think I'm going to drive back to where I was in December and do another reset.
Interesting to read the link you posted, with this at the end:
"Remedy: All Connected navigation features will cease. JLR says it is downgrading 3G vehicles to run on the T-Mobile 2G network so telematics services (InControl Remote and Protect) will work via the Jaguar Remote or Land Rover Remote smartphone apps.
This includes the following features: Emergency and breakdown call; Stolen Vehicle Tracking; Remote climate, beep & flash, unlock/lock vehicle, vehicle location, journey tracking, fuel level, vehicle status."
According to this above, my Nav should be gone. It's not. Used it today in the car. I have a current subscription for INcontrol R & P, so the services described in the last sentence SHOULD all be available.

Question regarding the TCU battery and possible symptoms a dead battery could cause. If the battery were dead, could it cause an interruption in the MOST network continuity? The symptoms I've been troubleshooting include:
Radio is inoperable.
Navigation is inoperable.
Bluetooth is inoperable.
InTouch system boots normally.
Touchscreen "buttons" are greyed out for these functions. All other functions available in touchscreen work fine.
Audio/speakers do work - any sort of vehicle "tone" or "alarm" (such as the tone when opening the vehicle door or turning the accessory/key on) can be heard as expected.
Completed MOST Loopback test at the IAM module - clean test resulted in no change in symptoms, which led me to the TCU.
I've ordered a replacement battery so I supposed my answers will be learned as soon as I have time to swap out the old, but I saw this post and thought I'd ask anyway.

The new battery did not change the symptoms. The InTouch soft buttons are still greyed out and I can hear a "grinding" coming from the console between/behind the seats. I cleared all DTCs and ran a complete scan. After reviewing the results I'm nearly convinced the TCU is toast. The two codes that came out are:
U1A24-87, Permanent, MOST ring complete, no communication.
U2003-87, Intermittent, Fibre optic communication bus.
Am I wrong to interpret this as saying the MOST ring is physically intact (light can travel around the loop), but the TCU is not coming online? My next step is to purchase a used (known good, if possible) TCU and see if it allows MOST registration and resolves the InTouch soft buttons from being greyed out. Does this seem logical? Can someone confirm options I may have (or not) for programming the TCU. If I understand correctly a minimum of VIN configuration will be required.
Thank You,
Chris
Have read many of the threads and posts, no clear cut info on why my working Jaguar Remote and Protect app. stopped working in mid-December 2025, WAAAAY past the publicized endate of 2G/3G networks. I have found statements that Jaguar pledged to keep a 2G3G subset working in order to allow the safety features of the app going.. door lock/unlock/flash headlights/sound horn/track /locate the car. I presume that is what WAS still working for me up until this past December 2025.
I did work through all the suggestions, check TCU battery, press and hold WRENCH button on overhead, log in and out of the app. and finally remove/wait/replace fuse F40 in the passenger footwell fuse box. Interestingly I never found a fuse location for the TCU/Telematics fuse in any of the fuse boxes listed for either a 2017 or 2016 ( my car was built mid-2016 and has some transitional components) my JLR tech said HE found the fuse by tracing back the wiring from the TCU.
The car is stuck "asleep", 'driving'/ in use" so none of the safety features mentioned above are accessible. Driving the car for a good distance does nothing to wake up the car. In the plan I put together with my tech, the car will now go in for an OBD scan to see if there are any codes that come up. On the fence about doing any software upgrades and the possibility of bricking the car is always out there. Jaguar can't be the only manufacturer to have hit this TCU wall... why hasn't someone stepped up with either an upgrade to the existing box or a new box that's 4/5G compatible?

Since you're running out of ideas, I know you logged out of the app and back in, but have you tried deleting the vehicle from the app, deleting the app (and all the data) from ALL devices that have it, reboot the devices, and then reinstall the app and re-add the vehicle to the app? I had something similar happen to a Ford vehicle on a remote app and the only way to reset it was to do this. It's kind of a PITA to do but at this point I don't think a little more time committed won't hurt.

Yes, you are right, running became ran. Have strongly considered the start from scratch... it's what we do in IT.. AFTER making sure the plug is firmly in its socket. What I think will happen once I remove the car from the app, then remove the app, then reinstall the app and try to add the car, is that the app will no longer find the car. If whatever isn't working to wake it up is still FUBAR, then I won't be able to add the car. However, the remote app isn't working now, so I don't have much to lose.
I think I will wait on this until my JLR tech has at it with his scantool. I'm making an appt, so it probably will be more towards end of March for next update. Thank you very much for checking in on me!

Alright, I have read the threads and all are very helpful. But I have an issue. I have a 2020 F Type R convertible. I believe the TCU battery is found between the seats on the back panel; but I'm not sure of that. The reason being, I've applied a good amount of pressure to open that panel and it won't budge. Is this the correct location and if so is there another trick to open the panel?
Welcome to my world....

The 'Vert's rear panel requires TWO pair of hands. Arraign for your helper to be present.
The Cliffs Notes version:
1. Remove the rear speaker covers. (Empty your swear jar before you begin!)
2. Un-snap the side covers (the panel that the shoulder seat belts go thru)
3. Unbolt the roll hoops.
4. Lift the panel with a sharp jerk. < ---No, that is NOT your helper
Unplug the plug near the top of the storage cubby before you lift it too far.
That is enough to access the TCU battery, which (on our '14) was below the storage cubby.
5. Replace in reverse order...
. Make sure all is well before you snap those speaker covers into place!!!!

Did this work for you? I cannot locate fuse 20. It states its in the trunk but there is no fuse #20 10amp red in the trunk. I have a 2016 R model and double checked the manual as well. No #20 fuse in the trunk that I can see.
Seems to be for MY18+ models - I have F20 in three fuse boxes!
No, My JLR tech said the fuse for the telematics is in the fusebox on the floor of rightside passenger compartment. He said it was Fuse 40, a tan fuse, I believe 5 amp. He used his electrical diagram for this car, traced the wiring back from the TCU to the fusebox. This car is somewhat transitional, labeled a MY2017, but with some 2016 components. Kinda like the S1/S1.5/S2 E-type world. Whatever, it didn't work anyway.
I have an appointment set up mid April, 2026. Among small chores, connect the car to his scantool and see if it tells us anything. I will be sure to post the results of that visit here.
