This model is not sold anymore but I have one and don't use it anymore. The big issue is you bump it with your knee all the time. I would guess that would be the issue with all of them.

Another thing is unless you are going to a dealer for service all the time the device is not really necessary.

I don't think the concern is dealer access. The concern is this is how thieves steal these modern cars. They hook up to the OBDII port and clone a new key, then start the car with it and drive it away.

Default checked the reviews.....

(for the Amazon units)

"Locksmith here. This "lock" is not going to stop anyone from using your ODBII port to program keys. For one, this item is simply cheap plastic and can be easily pried off the port (I tried this on my own vehicle). Secondly the "key" is nothing more than a common Torx bit. Lastly, if someone has the skills to break into your vehicle, disable the alarm and program keys, then they most likely can go around this device. I can't recommend this "lock" at all and I'd you buy it thinking that it will help keep your car safe, you are delusional. You are better off cutting the ODBII plug off entirely, followed by tracing the wires to their beginnings and cutting them off there as well. Now that would actually work and stop all but the most determined theives, unlike this plastic "lock", which won't stop anyone."

Looks like the BEM unit MAY be better, don't know about being able to pry that one off.....

The port lock I have is solid aluminum not plastic. The key is the same type I have seen used to lock vending machines. However you are right if someone was determined, the port lock could be easily pried off as the socket is made of plastic..

BTW from what I have read attacking the OBD port is not the preferred method of cloning a key. Access to the key to clone it at the dealer or using a signal booster/repeater for a key nearby is the preferred method to steal a car.

Default All good info!

I think that this problem, like others, may need to be approached from a few different angles. I'm lucky enough to have a garage, and ALWAYS put it in there. Don't need the reconnaissance artists checking out what's in the driveway for their future acquisition. If away for extended time, turn off breaker for garage door opener. Always keep fob in Faraday bag that works, especially in the house. Thieves are known to drive around checking for signals. Some use a metal box. Also have the Club. Perhaps the best deterrent is manual transmission! I did get Jaguar Remote, which although a subscription ($70) allows me to see where the car is. I tried it out when abroad and it works. Jaguar Remote also comes with "journeys" which, when activated show everywhere the car has been. I enabled that while the car was at the dealer and could see that tech did the work and took it out for test drive, showed exactly where, speed and time.

I installed IGLA Immobilizer in mine the week I got it.

Short story is - unit is installed 'somewhere' (even I don't know) in the electrical system and uses the CANBUS to limit the ability to turn on the engine. You essentially setup a sequence code using almost any buttons available in the cockpit, You then start the car in accessory mode, input the sequence you chose and then start the engine. If this code is not performed correctly, the engine simply doesn't start, period. Important to note, the car does not care if you have a valid key fob present, the IGLA system will continue to block it from starting until the code is put in. AFAIK it's still currently undetectable by thieves, odds are they will never find the unit. It can be put into a 'service mode' for mechanic visits, etc and the car will start as normal with only key fob present. There's more but that's the jist of it. I know if they really want it they are going to tow it, but short of that I consider it money well spent.

Feel free to PM or ask questions if interested.
