Assuming you made this video I think you're just asking for trouble. Similar to those who park across 4 spaces to stay away from cars, I think people will just mess with your car on purpose. Better off just not parking near people IMO.

I've been doing this for about 2 years, and it's not my experience.

I agree it's a possibility, but I've had no problems so far. If someone is the sort of dick that will mess with your car because they see you are trying to protect it, then frankly they are the sort of dick that you can't predict or plan for - maybe they'll mess with it because they don't like the colour, or they are off their meds or are having a bad hair day - who knows.

The majority of car dingers are people who just don't care or think it's important, or kids. For that majority this stops the dings, because the first they notice (if they notice at all) is when their door smacks off my protector rather than hitting my door. By that time it's already done it's job.

But for sure, it's not for everyone - make your own choice. As I say, commercial products that do this are available so I'm not the only one.

I also park miles away from cars when possible and use 2 spaces there when I do (provided car park is sufficiently empty not to cause issues for anyone else), and I've never had bother from anyone about that either.

For me, it's the last resort and to be deployed only when:

- car park is busy or there's nowhere I can park (like side of a road) which would avoid the possibility of a car parking next to me (this is already only maybe 10% of the times I park)
- even then hopefully only required on one side of car if I can park in a corner, etc

I think you deserve an ingenuity award. I don't think this will encourage vandalism, and it looks effective.

Does make me wish they'd done more with the plastic car panels that Saturn was messing with. Those doors never dinged. The dual layer wrap I have on my F seems to toss off dings pretty well and it buffs out with plastic polish. (This doesn't work with a flat wrap as I later discovered).

Sweet. Video is back and that is so simple, and elegant. I could imagine using that if I parked for lengths of time in one spot, airport parking, etc. Cool idea. You could just get a pool noodle. lol

have you got a list of materials and howto on this - I know it seems straight forward but can't quite work out what you've used internally - ie does it run all the way through and are they different diameters to link into etc
