I recently got a 2018 R - after using the built in navigation a few times, I realize it's really not good (thought roads were closed, sending me 30m out of the way, searching for locations resulting in places several states away, etc).
I was looking into getting the Unique Audio Developments box for Android Auto - I took some pictures and contacted their support, and they recommended this one: https://unique-ad.co.uk/product/wire...ype-2017-2018/
However after reading a few threads on here, I think I might have the IMC infotainment rather than the Harmon infotainment. Would this mean that I couldn't install UAD, or does that particular UAD model support both Harmon and IMC? Just want to avoid paying for the box and install and then having it not work.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated! Here are some pictures I took of the box behind the seat:
It may mean that the installation will be connected to the screen and not the head unit, but it might not be. Best to ask UAD.
Just a question of installation. If they have your VIN they will be able to tell you which set up it will be.
I have never seen UAD unable to properly identify the right solution. It sounds like you already reached out to them. I would reach back out to share your concerns and get their feedback. Their customer service is excellent and their parent company, is IDCORE, who makes these units.
Will do! I ended up deciding to hold off for now just because of the warranty and didn't want any shenanigans related to that with the dealer.
Another member did the install recently and mentioned that they were very happy with it fwiw!
Yes, that was me…and my only real complaint is the occasional car not recognizing the usb aux input…I don’t necessarily know if this is a UAD issue or the car itself? I occasionally will have to unplug the aux input, plug it back in, and re-select it in the jaguars source menu. This could be remedied by using the jaguars Bluetooth function for audio…but then you don’t get to hear anything from the UAD audio out…I.E. nav/CarPlay/Siri/txt/calls.

Thinking of installing the UAD for my 2018 8 inch screen too. Does this problem about not recognising the USB input continue to happen for you? Also curious on what this USB to AUX adaptor is doing, emulating a USB stick or something converting the analogue AUX to a digital USB stream? What's the sound quality like, presumably you no longer use OEM Bluetooth for anything anymore (everything through the UAD including calls?) Any problems with reverse camera on the MY18?
The UAD unit outputs audio to an AUX jack, which needs to be inserted in to the AUX input in the car. You change the radio to the AUX input to "switch" to the UAD unit. To listen to radio, you change to the radio input, for instance. The sound quality is very good in my opinion, and the UAD contains a (?10-band?) equalizer so you can tweak the sound MUCH more than the OEM system. You do need to install a new microphone (included) for use with outgoing phone calls, and I do not use any other Bluetooth options in my car. Some people still use their phone connected to Bluetooth for calls but need to switch back and forth, which is confusing to me. I leave it on CarPlay unless listening to radio and all works fantastic. For disclosure, I have a 2016.
Only the older cars have an AUX jack and I think that was dropped with the MY18 facelift. My car has no AUX jack, just two USB ports and an HDMI in port. I'm also considering installing the UAD kit at some point and I guess for the newer cars without AUX the UAD sound has to go over bluetooth.
By the way I always wondered what anyone would use the HDMI port for. I also saw a brand new MY23 car without it and only with the two USB ports so maybe they also dropped that or it was optional
Hey everyone, as I stated in original post, the UAD unit needed for my 18 (with the 8 inch screen) uses either of the two jags usb inputs for the aux. I actually just downloaded an update from UAD, but haven’t installed it yet. I honestly don’t think it will effect the occasional need to have to unplug and re-plug in the usb aux input…I’m guessing that’s a Jag issue itself, but hopefully I’m wrong. One other issue I have noticed over the months of use is that occasionally the Waze map when using CarPlay will not work properly, showing no speed and is stuck on the location that the car started on…again I’m not sure if this is an iOS, Waze, or UAD issue..we’ll see if that changes once I update.

Interesting, so one of the USB ports. Good to get some more info about how the setup with IMC works because there' doesn't seem to be much info posted about that. I checked out your other thread about your installation. So how much work was it? You mentioned that you had to connect to the actual screen so did you have to dismantle the center console with the screen and where did the UAD unit go - behind the screen or in the area behind/between the seats?

Yeah mines the same 18MY so no AUX. I guess the AUX to USB dongle provided by UAD is doing some kind of analogue to digital streaming, is the sound quality ok? Does the reverse camera work as before by just engaging reverse and is the OEM sat nav still available on the MY18 cars?
Here is a UAD video for the MY18 installation on a convertible if anyone is interested. Told by UAD that the coupe only requires the middle panel between the seats to be removed for the rear part of the installation (so much less involved that the convertible). The behind the screen part of the install remains the same.
Re your Waze issue. As I understand it Carplay or Android Auto are just projections of your phone and are pretty dumb. This is by design to allow easy and continued updates because it's your phone that does all the work. So if Waze is acting up I'd suggest running it just from your phone and see if you have the same issue.

I had to remove the oem screen and the UAD unit connects/goes behind there, and I ran the aux to usb, and mic lines down the side (removed the side panels) and into the armrest storage.

Sound quality using the aux to usb dongle provided by UAD is great, although I do use Apple Music which is lossless for most media. When CarPlay acts up on the screen I have checked the phone and it’s fine, and closing and reopening the app doesn’t reset the UAD interface, only going into the UAD settings and rebooting the phone from there resets it, so I think it is some type of interface/handshaking issue with Waze, CarPlay and UAD…when this happens I have tried using Apple Maps and everything is fine. It’s not the end of the world and over all I and still glad I made the purchase.

And is factory sat nav still available and no problems with the reversing camera?
