Default Winter Preparation

Hi, everyone!

Going to be driving my F-Type R year round & live outside of Buffalo, NY so we get some pretty wicked winters.

So far, I am getting the car undercoated to protect against salt/rust, ceramic coated to protect against corrosion, and swapping the summer tires for a pair of winter Pirelli Soto Zeros.

Is there anything else anyone would recommend I do before winter strikes? Any insight is appreciated.

Thank you!

Top up the washer fluid; it cleans the headlights as well as the windshield. Winter mix, of course.

And hopefully, it’s two pairs of tires.

I drove my V8 XF in the New England winters for 10 years. Other than sometimes slightly iffy traction (RWD) I had no issues. No special prep, I didn't have any rusting issues despite it ending up plastered white with salt (it was a black car). So I think what you said covers it well

Keep an eye on battery condition for cold cold starts..

I used to drive my XJ6 in New England in the Winter.
Did not even think about tires back then.
I could always judge where the back end would slide to on the turns.
Very predictable, but it rusted like a SOB.
My biggest concern with the F-Type is low ground clearance with ice chunks and frozen snow.
I use all season Michelins and only drive on cold, clear days in Winter.
No ice, snow or rain!!

I would be concerned about road salt destroying the finish on the wheels. They do make products specifically to protect wheels but I have not tried any of them so I can't make any recommendations.

In Buffalo, perhaps you could start a side-hustle plowing driveways with your F? That front lip is LOW.

More seriously, you don't mention the year of your car, but the early ones needed refinishing of the steel underbody braces. I'd inspect and paint those with POR-15 or similar, before applying the undercoating.

Don't forget to replace the fancy carpets with the rubber mats

I would change the oil before putting her down for the winter. See article below for reasons why.

You must be joking…there is not a single credible statement in this pseudo AI junk. It is a complete waste of brain power and time to read. Sadly, I read it because I was mesmerized by the depth of nonsense…
