Default Amazing trick to find coolant leaks

Have you ever wondered why coolant is those funky colors, like yellow or green or orange? It's because they have fluorescent dye in them. If you are having trouble finding a leak, take a UV light (black light) and inspect your engine either in a dark garage or at night. You will immediately find where it has been leaking, even if it has dried off as the dye will leave visible streaks.

I bought a LED flashlight which transmits uv light that is intended to look for pet stains on carpet. It works fabulously for finding leaks from my big cat too.

Regards,

Remarkable.

I was aware of a number of different fluorescent tracer dyes available for adding to a cooling system as an aid to leak detection but not that some manufacturers may be incorporating these in their standard coolant formulation.

I believe I found the flashlight at the display rack for a rental carpet cleaner. Pet stores might have them too.

Default leak locating

I found at my O' Reilly parts store a special set of glasses and flashlight for seeing the fluorescing stuff I was supposed to put in my oil to find the leak. While this isn't what I got exactly you're supposed to use the glasses and have different additives to what ever leak ( water, oil, fuel, etc) that you are looking for. And I second the prior comment. do it in a dark garage as you can't see squat during the day.
