Default Battery drain

I have a 2001 S Type with the 4 liter engine. My wife is the driver of this Jag. Last week I was in the garage about an hour after my wife returned from a trip. I heard music playing and opened the door to the Jag and saw that the CD/radio was still playing even though the car had been turned off for an hour. I turned off the radio. The interior lights were working properly, so I believe the battery was good at that time. Today my wife went to start the Jag and it was dead. I checked tha battery and it read 2.4V. I charged the battery and it took a charge as normal. After the battery was charged, I started it and let it idle for 15 minutes. everything was working properly. Has anyone else has a similar problem? Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help,
Howard

hak, it is sounding like your battery saver relay has stuck in the ON position and it is not turning off the accessories when the door is opened. Granted, a quick test is to turn the car off and see if the radio remains playing. Now, open the driver's door. Did the radio turn off? If yes, then odds are, it was a fluke and it was a one time occurrence. If the radio did not turn off, close the driver's door and then open the passenger door. Did the radio turn off now? If no, then odds are you have a bad relay. If yes, then the door ajar switch in the driver's door is bad and you need to replace that.

As a side note, do you have the premium sound system or the basic sound system. Along those same lines, do you have the NAV system or the non-Nav system? These all play into where the power for the radio comes from and I want to give you as accurate information as possible.

Thermo, Thanks for your help. Our Jag has the premium sound system with CD changer, no Nav system. Your suggestions are very logical...I will check out your recommendations and let you know what I discover. Thanks again for your help.
