Default EZ Pass & Heated Windshield Issues?

So ever since I got my XE, my EZ Pass has not worked. Im trying to figure out if the heated windshield lines are interfering with the Ez Pass signal. This same EZ Pass worked fine in my old truck.

Anybody have any input/similar experiences? Thanks!

Welcome to the forums ebolt,

I have a heated windscreen in my XK and use an electronic tag for automatic payment of French Autoroute tolls. For the signal to operate, this must be fitted in the designated area next to the rear view mirror as the heater element can cause signal issues. Your XE will be similar.

Solar attenuating glass is also an option on the XE which makes positioning of the tag even more critical as this layer blocks all signals. Here is the relevant extract from the XE Owner's Handbook:

So i have mounted it in that area and it still appears that it is not working. Im beginning to wonder if its the EZ Pass unit itself. I called EZ Pass when I was having trouble last week and they werent much help.

any other ideas? Thanks

My Bentley has solar attenuating glass with NO free space like the Jaguar so the tag cannot be mounted in the vehicle. I have to hold the tag out of the window and as far across the roof as possible when approaching a toll. I'm not suggesting this as a solution ( ) but as a one-off test it would help verify if your tag has an issue or it's the glass.

Aware that this looked both ridiculous and undignified, I attached the tag to the Bentley roof with a GoPro sucker when I travelled across France and Spain last year passing through more than twenty tolls and one border crossing in a day.

One thing that has bit me repeatedly with EZ tags is they are a use once item. So if you try to remove it to reposition the tag you have destroyed the EZ tag.

Now I have been told by windshield repair guys that they can do this without damage. When I had the windshield replaced in my XJ I found out they take a picture of your license plate at the toll booth. If it matches anything in their data base then you are charged the toll. So my EZ tag was not working but they never notified me because they were just scanning my plate to assess the tolls.

Surely we pay enough taxes that this extra tax grab is not necessary... the total lack of respect for the management of public monies burns me. (Pun intended) ... trying to stir it up ;-)

or perhaps we just need to fit all humans with an RFID, then there would be no need for the toll pass, lol.

I have the same issue in my 2019 IPACE. I ordered a replacement EZPASS thinking the battery may have died but the replacement isn't recognized either. I'll pull out the manual and see exactly where it needs to be positioned to be recognized.

I picked up another EZ pass at my local EZ service office for my 2008 XKR the other day. The man that helped me noted the car was a Jag and pulled out a recommended pass location list which said stick it in the upper left or right corner of the windshield.
Of course I haven’t used the pass yet so not sure it will indeed work but at least I can point to their recommendation.
There were a number of other Jag models listed so maybe stop by their office for help. Also the new module is considerably smaller (a little bigger footprint than a business card) than the old flat ones (maybe 4” by 5”).
Good luck.
Mike
