Default IDS or WDS system ????

Good evening

Quick question... I have the opportunity to purchase a working WDS machine. What are the pros / cons of this vs the subscription etc. to the new IDS software? I only ask as I am not a dealer or repair shop and the 1,000 USD subscription is fairly steep. I only intend to service my 03 Jaguar S type with it and am not sure if they even make newer module updates or the IDS has further capabilities in comparison to the older machine. Enough rambling, any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!

The WDS is good up to the 2006 MY Jaguar/Ford.

You can do everything the dealer could do to a 2003 Jaguar but the software will end at the 2006 WDS support CDs.

The IDS has continuing support with updates to present (with the subscription)

The WDS software will never expire.

Thanks I decided to go for the older unit, should fit the bill for general maintenance. Any tips or sources on the Jaguar software for it? The unit is a ford programmed one unfortunately. Thanks for any advice!

Smile Ids/wds

Found mine on ebay, it was an old Hertz unit with the just the docking bay and unit. rewired a new power supply to run the docking station. unit works though, although it needs a new battery so I just ordered some new cells and plan on rebuilding the battery pack. I had a cable set already that included most of the cables / adapters other than the b-203 cable, still on the search for that part. If you are in the market though I used one of those nationwide craigslist search sites and found a few across the country for sale complete with cable and cabinet etc. they seem to be selling for about 5-600 roughly. I will be purchasing the software from our forum member, Bob G. who posted above. for my purpose I just waned it to work on my car exclusively, so IDS with it's 1k+ yearly subscription seemed a bit overkill. Good luck on your search they are out there still

There are several listed on eBay from time-to-time. I bought mine on eBay for a Ford setup but I worked at the Jaguar dealer and have the Jaguar software.

Several of us have the CDs to load the software onto the WDS.

I'm still looking in to a dealer level scanner, all the WDS scanners I've seen have been old massive machines, I can't seem to find a compact clone laptop/multiplexer set up.

Ive come upon a company selling a SDD IDS set up, I was told by this company that I wouldn't need a subscription to topix , has any one heard of this before?

I was under the impression that you couldn't do programming/coding with out a subscription.

BAAAHHHHHH wish I saw this thread sooner. If I had the chance I never would have bought a WDS. I have 4 units, and all of them have problems. Most the time they end up freezing up all the time and you have to re-boot them. I invested in an autologic unit. But 10,000 USD is a bit expensive for the normal stuff. I would suggest an IDS over a WDS any day.

I have 4 WDS machines, and they are horrible. I'm fighting with one while the other is dead etc. They really are awful. I manage an independent, my roommate is a dealer tech, I would take the IDS all day long. I have an autologic personally.

LOL I said this months ago I guess.
