Hi Marky68
Looks like a bad download of files - here are the correct file sizes:
JTIS21 S_Type.part1.exe is 143 mb (146,485 KB)
JTIS21 S_Type.part2.rar is 134 mb (137,724 KB)

I just ran the part1.exe and it extracted all the files (part1.exe and part2.rar) perfectly.

I noticed that you are also not using the destination folder that I have recommended.

See post# 13 - it says "Change the destination folder to a new folder (JTIS21) see next 2 screenshots - because the download folder is not best location to hold the extracted files."
But in the special JTIS achives like the X-Type or S-Type versus all models, use C:\ folder as the destination folder (computer root drive folder).

Hi marky68
Well you are almost there.

The JTIS software install creates a jjtis.ini file (that tells the software what folder the data files are in).

I noticed that when I run the jjtis.exe in the C:\jaguar folder that it is using the JJTIS.INI file located in C:\Users/User/APPData/Local/VitualStore/Windows folder.
Note: C:\Users then User (substitute your user account name on your win7 PC for User).

If you do have the jjtis.ini, then copy it into the C:\Users/User/APPData/Local/VitualStore/Windows folder (substitute, Sounds like you are missing the jjtis.ini file in that folder).

Your jjtis.ini file maybe in another folder on your PC.
Do a search on your PC using search term jjtis.ini.

Here is the 1st 5 lines of information in my jjtis.ini file:
[File]
StartFile=C:\JTIS21\data\startup.txt
DataPath=C:\JTIS21\data
DTCStartFile=DTCStart.PDF
Whatsnew=C:\JTIS21\data\whatsnew.sgm

Hi Jim
The ini file was in the correct place but the firs five lines were the problem, I edited the file to point to the correct directories as per yours but it still didn't work.
I then noticed that the install within JTIS21 had a top level folder called s_type of which had all the other files inside I simply copied all the files from this up one level and it now works fine. I know I could have edited the ini to cater for this but either way works.
Interestingly where is the download for all the other models as I only have the S type data files?

Hi Marky68
You downloaded the achive files for the special JTIS21 for the S-Type model series instead the JTIS21 for all models.

Here are the weblinks to the all models (JTIS21) archives files.

Part1.exe is 190 mb (195313 kb)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/fvdg6rsl63...20CD.part1.exe

Part2.rar is 190 mb (195313 kb)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/bwx4uch8m9...20CD.part2.rar

Part3.rar is 58.9 mb (60318 kb)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/xk49mq38ch...20CD.part3.rar

You need to delete all the JTIS files in the C:\JTIS21 folder or whatever folder you used as the destination folder.

Then run the part1.exe for the all model JTIS21.
That is all you have to do. Everything else is OK.

Thanks very much - instructions were clear and easy to follow and worked for me first time.
I had previously tried to get JTIS working on my own on Win 7 64 Home Premium, but gave up. Your instructions got me up and running. Now if only the JTIS software was not hideous to use

Hi eggman
Yes, you are correct about being able to find the wanted procedures easily.

After reading your post, I selected your Model series (S-Type) and Model Year (2002) to see what kinds of difficulty I would run into trying to find a specific repair procedure in the "In Vehicle Repair" section on your Engine type (3.0L).

I decided to try the first one listed (Camshafts LH).

First removal instruction was "Remove the timing chains. For additional information, refer to <<Timing Drive Components>>.

The set of << >> can mean that it is a clickable link to another procedure, but in this instance it meant to go back to the list in the text navigator and find "Timing Drive Components" that was also in the same section (In Vehicle Repair).

The Timing Drive Components procedure also has other procedure references that you have to go back to the list and find and open (Valve Cover LH, Valve Cover RH, Water Pump, Crankshaft Pulley, and Oil Pan).

Some of the repair procedures have procedure reference that points back to a different Catagory Section like the water pump reference (refers to 303-03)" Engine Cooling", then you need to go to its sub-section "Removal and Installation", then "Water Pump 3.0L".

I do not know why all of the called out procedures within the first procedures are not clickable links to the specified procedures.

I probably could research the software procedure files and fix some of them, but there are probably hundreds of these call out procedures that do not have clickable links. Way beyond my time and resource limits.

I have changed a few of them in the XJ model series for 1998 year (that selection has most of the procedures needed for model years 1998-2003).

You will note that a lot of my posts have PDF files that I have created from JTIS extracted procedures.
I usually group them in a post with downloads links to the specify procedure and all the other related called out procedures PDF files.

Hope this helps

Hi Jim,

The software feels very "20th Century" compared to modern user interface standards. In recent years there is a tendency to avoid the wild goose chases you described above. I very much appreciate, your help getting up and running!

Default Download via Mediafire no longer possible?

Hi,
when trying to download the second file (JTIS 21 CD.part2.rar) from Mediafire, I get the follwing message:
"The file you attempted to download is an archive that is part of a set of archives. MediaFire does not support unlimited downloads of split archives and the limit for this file has been reached. MediaFire understands the need for users to transfer very large or split archives, up to 10GB per file, and we offer this service starting at $1.50 per month.

We have informed the owner that sharing of this file has been limited and how they can resolve this issue."

Any alternative download site?
Best regards
Martin

I have the JTIS archive files on my dropbox.com account.
The weblinks for each of the 3 files are in post# 45

I put the JTIS archive files up on my dropbox account. I have had no problems with the downloads on the dropbox.com site.

When the dropbox webpage opens, just click on the download button and use the run option on the popup.

Here are the weblinks to the all models (JTIS21) archives files.

Part1.exe is 190 mb (195313 kb)

Part2.rar is 190 mb (195313 kb)

Here is what you need to know before you download and install the JTIS21 software

First you need to determine whether your PC has a 32 bit or 64 bit Operating System.

Method to determine Windows XP 32 bit or 64 bit
Look at this JPEG (has instructions/illustrations) Click on the image when the dropbox webpage to get a better view:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/0zo00wh83i...20bit%20OS.jpg

Method to determine Windows 7 (32 bit or 64 bit Operating System):
Look at this JPEG (has instructions/illustrations) Click on the image when the dropbox webpage to get a better view:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/khcyplnz98...20bit%20OS.jpg

Important step after you download the JTIS21 archive files and after you start the running the 1st archive (exe) file to extract the files in the 3 archives - make sure you put in the C:\JTIS21 as the Destination folder

This PDF covers install on a 64 bit Windows 7 Operating System (also the other windows 64 bit OS - Windows 8, Windows 8.1, XP, and Vista):
https://www.dropbox.com/s/fe6jkw5py3...bit%20v1.6.pdf

If you have windows 8 64 bit you may have to download the microsoft 32 bit help software for windows 8

I put the JTIS archive files up on my dropbox account. I have had no problems with the downloads on the dropbox.com site.

When the dropbox webpage opens, just click on the download button and use the run option on the popup.

Here are the weblinks to the all models (JTIS21) archives files.

Part3.rar is 58.9 mb (60318 kb)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/xk49mq38ch...CD.part3.rar?m

Decide where to place the JTIS files after they are extracted (CD or on PC hard drive).

This PDF describes both the CD and Hard drive processes:

Here is a desktop shortcut file called "Run JTIS.ink" (refers to the Jaguar folder's JTIS software exe file - jjtis.exe) JTIS first screen opener to select year and model year:
I created for running (use internet explorer to download it without any problems - seems to have a problem with goggle chrome).

Thank you to everyone involved with this - I now have the JTIS software running on my 64bit W7 laptop.

I have to say that as electronic workshop manuals go, it's nowhere near as good as the ones produced by Jeep or Rover but should be a big help in coming months.

Thanks again

Default Please help...

I have been trying to get JTIS installed for the past week, I am still working on it but am running out of patience. The part that I really want to know from the JTIS is the reference related to the VVT in JTIS 5. My Jag is down until I know that the VVT is correct and everything I found so far references to this JTIS 5, which is why I have been working to get JTIS installed.

Can someone PLEASE tell me what JTIS 5 is and what it says about the VVT system? I am trying to correct a P1396 code

Welcome to the forum JNknr,

My installed version of JTIS is build version 1.4 (Dec 2002) at build level 6.344.13 which goes up to MY 2004. I assume this build level 6 post dates the 5 you are asking about.

It has information on the VVT (see section boxed in red:
