Default PDU Detecting Incorrect ECM Version?

I have a 1996 Jaguar XJS. Its a replacement for one that was rear ended several years ago. They were identical in every way. All the same options, same color, everything except the VIN obviously. Old car had a VIN ending with 225228. The one I have now ends with 224949)

I kept the old ECU. It was giving me issues (the oxygen sensors would not flip flop), but I snagged it before the wrecker took the old car and had it refurbished. It came back the first time and the fuel trims were off the chart. It couldn't keep the engine going and I sent it back. It took them months, and since then I obtained a PDU, which I didn't have the first time I got the refurbished ECU back. (I did have a working WDS though...I just thought of that)

Anyways, when I plugged in the old ECU (VIN 225228) the PDU responded with "CONFIRM: Incorrect ECM version installed. Do you wish to continue? I click yes, and it just locks on to a screen that displays the Engine Size, Type, Emissions Type and Part Number (LHE1410AE). I can no longer do anything else. I can't even abort out, I have to turn the PDU off and start again.

Is this possible because the PDU somehow knows that I am plugging in a different ECU to my car (VIN 224949)? Or do you think it was refurbished incorrectly? The only difference between the two PDU is that the native PDU to my car has a part number LHE1410AD, instead of AE....does that make a difference?

Did you try to enter the VIN that the replacement ECM came from???(225228) or are you entering the VIN of the car you presently have?

I certainly punched in the VIN that belongs to the ECU.

Do you think when I had it refurbished, a different VIN was stored in it? I've reached out to the company, but no word yet. I don't know what "Incorrect ECM Version" means. At first I wondered if it was refurbed to either a 1995 spec or and XJ6 spec?

I have swapped ECMs in X300 AJ16 and I never had to configure. I just had to perform throttle adap and O2 orientation.

Should be similar for the XJS??
