Question Transmission Fluid Change

I have recently purchased a 2009 Jaguar XF and want to change the transmission fluid...looking for information as to how many quarts / liters are required. Is the fill plug located just above the transmission pan? Any information would be greatly appreciated. This is my first Jaguar and like to perform repairs myself. I have also noticed it is leaking fluid from a 15 point connector sleeve, I have purchased valve body sleeve and would appreciate any information with replacing that piece.

Thanks, Doug

Doug, your vehicle is fitted with the ZF 6HP series of gearbox, most likely a ZF 6HP26.
If i were you, do plenty of research here on the forum and use professor google too, from memory in my XJ 2011 its around a 12 litre fill for full fluid replacement, so i purchased a 20 litre drum of ZF lifeguard6, not cheap stuff. I think if you are only doing a fluid change and not full flush its around 7 or 8 litres.
To be specific, the liquid amount is not really denoted by fluid amount as measured, your gearbox will show you its full level when fluid temp is around 40c, a slight dribble from the fill plug at this temp designates the correct level.
A few hints for you, owing to the age of your vehicle and not knowing its service history of mileage, heres a few tips.
Replace the mechatronic plug seal, replace the valve body seals(there are 4) replace the rectangular mechatronic valve plate seal as well, they are pretty cheap and easily obtainable, i suggest purchasing genuine ZF parts, all these seals are relatively simple to replace if you are doing a fluid change. You may as well purchase a new pan and filter the gasket should be pre fitted to your pan, replace the pan bolts with new as these are an annoyance and you may likely have some small issue when replacing the pan so have them on hand before you start the job.
The seals i speak of are overdue for replacement, regardless of your mileage, if not replaced, they will cause damage to your transmission and common hardshifting and all sorts of gremlins. I would recommend using genuine ZF fluid, some have used other brands eg Motorcraft Mercon SP.
****Note, changing your transmission fluid will not damage your gearbox, IT WILL however reveal if damage has been done and if it has not been maintained and loved, this is why some complain that changing the transmission fluid caused problems. The renewal of fluid changes the viscosity which in turn reveals just how damaged your gearbox may be as these transmissions constantly adapt, these are NOT filled for life lol gearboxes, there is no such thing.
Do plenty of research, there is an abundance of info available, as well as you tube vids, some showing how to do it, some totally making a ***** up of a fluid change and are a great example of what happens when the un initiated attempt it lol.

Have fun, read plenty
Regards
B.

This is from the 2010 X250 Workshop Manual:

Filler plug access is a bit tight:
