I'm seeing this on the threads, is it just me or is everyone, even if you view it it comes back as unread with another message and I can't get rid of it ?

 

It must be a sponsored post ,Nitto Tire name rings the bell on my mind .It must be something to do with Internet Brands

 

I've seen these as well - sponsored posts - even one popping up from Ford Motor Co.

 

Though I hadn't seen the Nitto tire post, I have noticed the sponsored post from Ford Motor Co.

I figured it was one way to pay for this site and its upkeep.

I much prefer it to the method used another Jaguar forum that I have on my toolbar. (I'm not sure why, because I never go there, at least not voluntarily.)

I'm sure the site in question has tons of good info, and is operated and populated by some really good folks. Certainly some of the same members as this site. But in addition to being a total PITA to navigate, the site always seems to have their hand out looking for donations.

I'm OK with that, and if the site didn't **** me off so bad every time I try to visit I would consider donating.

So if this forum needs some commercial sponsorship to maintain the quality service they provide, I'm all up for that!

Then again, if it's a site-approved sponsorship, it seems that the mods would be aware of it, wouldn't they ......???

 

They are sponsored posts for the site's owner Internet Brands and yes the revenue from these adverts goes towards the running costs of the site and to the site's owner.

The mods aren't employees, just volunteers, so we aren't necessarily in the loop for everything that goes on here.

I don't see these posts in question, nor half the ads on the site (some members have also mentioned pop-up ads and videos here?) but that's because of the browser settings i use, I think...

Thanks for the clarification, I figured it was something like that.
(In fact, I was gonna ask if they treated you like mushrooms. You know, keep you in the dark and feed you lotsa *bleep*!)

Anyway, in my opinion this website does a great job. I also think you moderators need to take a bow, as unsung and often unappreciated heroes.

 

I normally use Firefox with Adblock and don't see any of these ads, however earlier today
I had occasion to log in with IE and no blocker and there they were.
So, you can probably figure out what I deduced fro that experience. :-)

Thanks Retro, we do our best, but although everything here is free for members ( on top of all the FREE prize giveaways we constantly run ) someone somewhere has to pay the bills

+1 As Cameron says, using Adblock will remove these, I never see them myself either.

Retro - All the mods here are legends in my eyes, do a great job, all for the love of the marque / site etc.
As you say, unpaid / unsung heroes.

IE8, used to be IE6.

No adblocker running.

Not falling for the anti-IE FUD.

There was nothing wrong with IE6.

The only problem was the refusal to code to a browser
with over 80 percent market share by sniffy, wet behind
the ears, know-it-all web monkeys.

Their managers were too stupid to see through the
"not standards compliant" argument when a market
share of over 80 percent made IE6 a defacto standard.

Those same web monkeys having won their way, still
cannot create web sites that don't zoom cpu's to 100
percent usage and eventual lockup. The difference is
that they can no longer blame it on IE.

Said web monkeys should be flogged, burned at the
stake, and then tarred and feathered. IMHO.

on the original topic of annoying posts, I have found the ignore user function greatly enhances my enjoyment of the Forum. But thats just grumpy old me.

 

Thank you for the clarification, and thanks to Ford/Nittro for helping run these forums! And of course thank you to all the Mods.. I hadn't seen these for some time and about a week or two ago they started showing up. Chrome browser, it syncs with all my devices tablets/phones/multicomputers (bookmarks, userid, autofill etc).

The admin/owners response would be interesting. There seems to be at least three layers of advertising (unless I am dreaming). One directly associated and relevant to the site, some generic variable stuff (may have some geo location or site profile basis) and then stuff tailored explicitly to you e.g. right now I see Summit Racing ads because I recently browsed and bought there for my LUMP and also hat ads because I looked at Tilly hats as a result of a thread here. Soooo....dont complain about those Viagra adverts

I'm not an Admin nor the owner of this site. I am first an foremost a member, and then I fulfill additional duties as a moderator.

The following statement is from me, as a member of this forum.

If you are seeing invasive advertising on the internet, there are many (free) ways to stop internet advertising from bothering you. Such examples have been mentioned in this thread.

Adblock. I can't say it any clearer than that.

 

I exclude this site from adblock. If it provides a bit of income to keep it alive thats fine with me. I find the whole area of Internet advertising and how its targeted quite interesting.

 

These are not ads that I'm talking about. Toyota and Ford actually start threads under every forum heading. I don't ever read the threads, but it's annoying. It looks like they are spamming this site. Just sayin'

I understand they could well be annoying, but I do not see these, probably again because of the Adblock settings.

They are a "sponsored post" which is a form of advertising on the site.
