I may have to quit the forum...
While I appreciate our fine sponsors, when your ad inhibits me from using the forum, I certainly will not be pre-disposed to trade with you. For instance, if ever I had the urge to buy tires from the Kristyn the Yodeling cowgirl at Thomason Tires, that thirst was quelled by her ad covering up the menu items from "User CP" all the way past "New Posts!" There was no "Close" button on it. Clicking on the ad opened a new window (to their site, I suppose, but I closed it as soon as it opened) and the ad remained in place. Since I could not access the "New Posts" feature, I scrolled down to "Jaguar Forums Advice / Feedback & Suggestion Center" to lodge this rant along with a suggestion - If you can't find a place for ads on your home-screen that doesn't inhibit access to forum features, either equip them with a "Close" button or do away with same.

Hey please don't quit the forum for that , I have seen the most nerve straining adds on Auto Giude Forum's these Internet Brand's are not a trifle in comparison with those f##$%^&^&&$## ads
I am not against the adds of course they should be but there are adds that make me want to flip down the notebook lid
Good thing, Internet Brand's are not that irritating
Anyway, my recommendation as soon as you press the refresh button you should press the X button in no time ,therefore those banners will fail to appear .
I am following this procedure above when browsing CF for instance and works well

No - don't go but I was aggravated by the ads as well and since I have changed to default style - they are few and far between.
If you scroll all the way yo the bottom of the screen - what style do you have selected? If other than default, click the down arrow and select default - see how that works.
regards,
Steve

Zane those are pesky popup banner adverts and have nothing to do with our paying vendors.
I have never heard of the Yodelling Tyre company in question.
All our paying vendors are issued with strict forum guidelines that state the type of advertizing that is acceptable.
So far AFAIK we have never had a vendor that has abused the system.
ie, Banner in signature + links to their website. is good.
We also encourage vendors to get involved with the forum, eg SNG Barratt who have most certainly become active in the threads since signing up.
A positive post from a vendor is always accepted, heck it is what we all want, help from the guys who can.
Paying vendors can also offer 'sales' in threads or links to a part they sell if it is appropriate to the question.
Mindless popup adverts can be totally avoided without affecting forum useability.
So DON'T GO, or else we'll come looking for you!!
Best,
Richard

Good to know, Richard. Sorry to have jumped the gun in blaming the forum. I've just never had one that obscures the menu choices and can't be moved anywhere else. They are not constantly there, but seem to be random occurrences, sometimes a screen refresh rids them, sometimes not. And as you well know, I'd NEVER leave - I have 3 Jaags, I'll always be here for answers to my problems....but things like that CAN frustrate one into not spending his/her spare time here attempting to help others. Thanks for entertaining and attenuating my rant. ;-)

Zane, Jaguar37 is the all singing all dancing version with everything turned on, all the bells and all the whistles. It can mean though that there are certain ads pop up etc etc etc and be very annoying
it is what it is for using a free forum, no membership fees required here.
As stated deault settings are available, which may not look quite as pretty but can be a whole lot faster with no ads to annoy, many have switched to it I believe.

Thanks Jim,
Now I'm double-puzzled. I logged on today on a different laptop and Kristyn is back, but she is not blocking the menus....so I figure, "those guys are right, it's the style protocol employed" but then I scrolled to the bottom, and I'm on Jaguar37 - now, this one has a bigger screen than the previous one, so I guess more room and things aren't bunched up on top of each other? Secondly, I suppose the style is not keyed to your account, but somehow in the cookies on each different machine? Doesn't matter to me - Now I know I can change styles (never saw that one before) and that may have some effect, and, apparently, I can run Jaguar37 on my primary device and not have the menus obscured - now if I could just shake this terrible head-cold...

Style
Style is linked to your account.
Change it via your user CP/Edit Options/scroll down to Forum Skins and change.
Save your changes.
Then every time you 'log in' to the forum you will see your chosen style.
No matter what browser you use.
I use 6 different browsers and they all display my chosen 'default' style with no other input from me.
The quick style chooser at the bottom appears to be only good for that particular browsing session.
