Default Pop ups

How do you turn off the annoying pop ups on this site? I have the pop up blocker turned on, I use Mozilla, but it doesn't stop the ones on this site.

I have never had 1 pop-up come up nor has IE8 told me that they have blocked pop-ups so I suspect the problem is at your end

i don't get pop ups either, but if you're referring to the links in the text (some sort of indexing thing I suppose) there are plug-ins you can add that will block those from occurring. Translator has a good one that he provided me for my home computer.

Only pop ups come on when I get a pm , other than that you should not get any in your case . Well, you can give it a try and use OPERA

Hey Retro, you wouldn't want to receive some of the PMs that were floating around recently.

+1^

As far as I am aware pop ups are not used on this site. And as h20boy mentions...

I forgot about Castrol Pop Ups lol
However, I see them time to time and don't know how they come on when I browse the site with IE8

See the image

These are not your usual pop ups, on this site they float across the screen.

I didn't realize 'til just now what y'all (yes, I'm Southern) were talking about.

Guess I'd never had occasion to hover my cursor over one of the green highlighted links.

Yes, I agree .... that's a PITA.

'Green highlighted links'!! whatever you are brewing I'll have some

Well I've covered just about every mm on my screen and I have absolutely nothing, nada, rien.

The type of 'pop-up' you seem to be seeing 'floating' are not exactly pop-ups but are more usually DHTML.

If it is really bugging you send me a PM.

Attached screen shot of what I see, or don't, more like.

On my screen, certain words or phrases are highlighted in green. Hovering over them brings up ads for Jeep, Mini or some kind of Ford (whoopie!)
Naturally, given Murphy's Law, there aren't any in this thread.
Choosing at random ArmyJag's thread, "A Strange one",
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=41424
I was gonna use posts 11 and 12 on that thread because they had 3 examples; 'mpg', 'transmission' and 'maintenance'.
When I reopened those posts, the only word that was still a link was 'mpg'.
Apparently these "links" float around, too. (Kinda scary in a way!)

Translator, .... I, uh, need a translator!
Ya gotta remember you're not talkin' to the sharpest knife in the drawer, here.
I used to get pretty creative with HTML when I was selling on eBubba.
(That's eBay from a Southern perspective.)
I'll have to google DHTML. Better yet, the next 8 year old I run into can explain it to me.

No, not a bother at all. As I mentioned, I didn't even know about it until today.

I have three different browsers on this computer and NONE of them do anything similar to what you've described.

Somebody loaded an add-on you're not aware of?

Mikey,
I'm using Mozilla Firefox.

The list of things that I'm not aware of would boggle the imagination!

The only problem I've been having lately is a 'redirect' on any searches I do. Regardless whether it's Yahoo, Google or any other search engine, the first try is redirected to something totally unlike my search parameters.
(Suuure, I didn't actually want to inquire about the Jaguar AJ6 engine, I wanted to know more about menopause .... how did you know?)

Could be related ... I don't know.

P.S.
Okay ... for example, post 12 of this thread.
Line 1, the word 'Jeep'
Line 6, the phrase 'mpg'
both are up green highlighted, double underscored links to Jeep advertisements.

Ah, I don't see any of the above mentioned when using FF but I have somewhat personnalised the browser.

But don't worry, you are not going mad, in order to try to regenerate this view I have downloaded a 'new' version of Opera, and not changed any of the internal settings.

Now in this browser I see what you mean, yup green underlined tags do appear and 'floaters'.

Nothing in FF, IE8, or Safari.

There are a couple of simple tweaks that you can make.
